LOL I do Tech for a living and, for what it's worth, BMW software stability is terrible. It breaks every single day on my 2020 X5M in a variety of ways.

It's not the modernization we're witnessing but a simple cost-cutting exercise. Digital screens are cheap—really cheap—compared to analog gauges.

If the services I oversee at work had similar performance/stability, I would have been fired long ago

Same problem at Mercedes and elsewhere. To me it feels like there is a disconnect between the people working on the GUI and those engineering the hardware; while simultaneously, many of both are not actually driving the car and understanding the real world results of various changes as seen from the wheel.

Prior to my X5MC, I had a 2016 GSF Blue/Red. I thought I'd never sell that car as it was a good balance of analog with technology.

When the market was hot on those and I was able to sell it for what I paid for it basically 6 years ago, (car had 17k miles) I was reluctant as there was nothing I felt could replace that car in a similar fashion.

My buddy brought up the X5MC and I immediately fell in love.

My first BMW and an amazing drivers car with a good balance of tech.

Now would I get an XM or the LCI, probably not, not a fan of the new tech or the dash, loss of buttons etc. That's just my .02.

I don’t disagree with the interface and lack of analog buttons and switches. And dials.
But driving my 2014 for ten years is a long time. I guess I could look at used X5M from 2022- but they’re $80k for a low mileage pre certified.
For $20k more you can get a new M60 that doesn’t ride so harsh on NY pothole streets. The new M60 is far more easy to live w as a daily driver.

Things are very $$ for sure. Then you have to add:

-A set of BMW winters if your M60 comes with summers. Throw them in basement and take the issue of your plate.
-paint correction and ceramic.
-weather tech mats
-+1 maintenance plan

Enjoy!

Test drove the LCI and intentionally bought pre-LCI because of tech and my fear of a transmission mounted motor (I keep my cars for a while…that sounds like an expensive nightmare to me). The LCI barely drove differently. Am certainly jealous of the better headlights though!!

The latest iDrive 8 software is a buggy mess, they probably outsource it to minimum wage engineers in a third world country. I've owned a BMW with every version of iDrive starting with the original iDrive in a 2005 745, and they kept improving with every version up to iDrive 8, where its too bloated, broken, and just feels like a cheap generic tablet.

I forgot to add in my prior post, and no one seems to believe me when I say this. I prefer my X5MC over my 2019 Huracan Performantè. I feel like my X5MC is faster and a better overall car believe it or not and $200k cheaper lol

Totally with you on this, my Brand loyalty has been mostly BMW and a few Mercedes car (and an Audi, but just one). I have spent the last 25 years loving BMW and German cars in general but I am finding I really can't take it much longer. BMW is making cars so ugly, only a mother could love. The driving dynamics are still generally great, the software is infuriating some days, sometimes glitchy, more just dumb decisions. One of the big benefits of BMW was tunabilty and coding and seems they are taking that away from us. Mercedes I always bought for the V8 and sound, now they just slap a 4 bot and a 1000 pounds of batteries in everything and I have no desire at all. Porsche seems to be the only German car left that still has some attraction for that is still doing things right for now. We will see when all this hybrid, battery stuff maybe sorts itself out but the transition stuff I want nothing to do with.

My exact sentiments. This is a strange transitional time and I don’t want to buy a Palm Pilot, Apple Newton or a Betamax. Google that if Gen Y/Z. .

There will be an adjustment, pretty sure of it. I've said my piece here already but I think my last thought is that they do listen.

I was here before idrive. Yeah it was clunky but they quickly evolved it. That Bangle butt came and went. Etc. You see it all over with cars. I think we'll see this LCI setup evolve based on sales and owner input. I think you're going to see some buttons coming back just like they are over at Mercedes, now that they have heard their customers. Making your voice heard is good, as a group, it works.

My guess is LCI 2.0 is a better product, but that's next time. Right now you can be get off my lawn man, or try and adapt. Lets face it, the old guy that doesn't want to move forward and lives in the past, he's not happy. I'm old and I know a bunch of them. The day you stop keeping up is the day you start dying. I've complained about this, tried to be a voice for a better future. But I'm going to enjoy today as best I can with what I have. The 24 X5M is hella fun to drive. I'm not letting a screen take that from me.

For sure enjoy the hell out of it!

And I am definitely biased towards less is more, as my macro button 5…right in the middle for a quick press….shuts off my display screen in my ‘22. I find without the screen on the cabin is often more enjoyable. The design of dash, stitching, carbon fiber trim can shine.

Confirmed my dislike of the new curved screens and iDrive. Had a loaner 5 series today. Not poking at those who do like it; but to me:

-while the screens are meant to be one long one, they are very clearly two separate panels. They seem disjointed. When displaying digital art, instead of one image, there are two side by side separated by a space. They don’t ’mesh’ together. If that’s the case, why lose the design element if the cockpit and the driver-centric focus it provides?
-the right hand screen ‘displays’ the actual buttons that were eliminated. Mostly HVAC control. Didn’t resonate with me.
- In just looks like they bought a million of these displays and had to make sure they could bolt them to all the cars. Maybe if they built them into the dash or something and made them look more refined or bespoke. IDK. 🤷🏻‍♂️
-on the plus side, while there is no traditional volume knob, there is a decent one integrated in the center console. Like a cylindrical roller. Pretty good there.
-gear shift lever? Switch? Toggle? What’s it called? Ugh. Utter fail to me.

I got back into my F95, took a long hard look at the entire dash with the nice nice stitching around the edges of the leather over the instrument cluster, snicked the gear selector into D, and breathed a sigh of relief as I rolled away in my four brand new Michelin PS4S.

You definitely got great points!
Customer feedback is usually collected before the production launch, not after, since the changes to large-scale production are extremely expansive.
The new is not always better than the old...

Personally, I am past the point in life where settling for less is an option.
Yes, drives great, but you still have to spend time in the cabin...

Yes. The steering wheel is bizarre. Especially when turning through some lock.
