What was your best vacation ever?

Where is your most memorable trip?
What was so special?

Are you selling time shares....er excuse vacation ownership?

This was a sales tactic that I always used during those times. Quickest way to get past an objection by a prospective buyer, was to change their mindset. Ask them about their most memorable vacation, then ask what made it so memorable. Instantly they are transported back in time and relive the emotions....all while plotting my attack to beat them about the head and shoulders with the sales hammer.

I would have to say my honeymoon was the most memorable. Not for the sappy reasons but I got to see Europe.
-Landed in Paris (didnt care for much, but wifey loved it)
-Took the fast train to Monaco (HOLY SH!T, amazing. I had known nothing about Monaco until we got there. Travel agent recommended it. Stayed at the Fairmont right on the chicane turn for F1 fans and next to the Casino. This was a car lovers wet dream
-Then took the train to Florence (This was a foodies wet dream)
-Last stop, ROME. Amazing history but not very glamorous.

I had no desire to travel to Europe growing up, but now I feel like my life would have been incomplete had I never been there.

So many, but the one that probably stands out was a weekend trip to see my sister in Monterrey. Her husband took us out to see the vintage race cars. It was the first time I'd ever been to any historics racing event but it wasn't my last. I've been to several over the years since.

Munich last fall, the week after Oktoberfest. Weather was perfect, the crowds from Oktoberfest were gone and the puke squeegied up. Such a beautiful and walkable city, with nice streetcars too. Food was fantastic. Of course we visited Die Welt, the BMW museum, and toured the factory.

The best 'vacation' of my life was 6 days of R & R in Tokyo with my new bride. We got married 6 weeks before I shipped out to Vietnam so we basically spent our first year of marriage apart.

We stayed with the Japanese parents of some good friends of ours. We slept on mats and sat on the floor for meals. The meals were prepared right in front of us. It was a fabulous experience.

Japan is on my bucket list. I would love an experience like those home cooked meals.

Most memorable is 2 months with mates going through Europe but i'll say Greece as I think it is more inline with what the OP is referring to.

Tough one, as my wife and I love traveling and have so much more to do.

2015 - moved from Atlanta to Fort Lauderdale - took a 4 week vacay to travel Europe between jobs: Oslo (layover) -> Madrid -> Bacelona -> Nice (Eze/Monaco) -> Rome -> Florence (day trip to hike around Cinque Terre) ->Day trip to Enzo Ferrari's house in Modena -> Venice -> Munich (made it for 2nd day of Oktoberfest would go back every year if possible) -> Vienna -> Prague -> Home

2018 - Belize for the Honeymoon for a week

2019 - Thailand (2wks): Bangkok -> Chiang Mai -> Phuket -> Phi Phi Islands ->Krabi/Railay Beach -> Koh Samui

2020: Were supposed to go send 10 days in England (London, Yorkshire & a couple days in Edinburgh, Scotland) to celebrate a friend's birthday with is family who all live in Yorkshire, but COVID got to F**k that over

Our next trips are either Austrailia, Tasmania, New Zealand or Japan. (we'll definitely make it to Europe too. Too many friends there and my wife is 1/2 Hungarian and her dad wants to go see family)

I'll try to come back later to upload a single pic from each trip. I have so many pics/memories that they would need entire threads to themselves. I never grew up getting to travel a lot, and my parents never really have (dad is 64 & has never been to Europe), but damn I'm glad the bug bit. Such an amazing & rewarding experience

Italy was always top notch in my book - Florence, Venice, Pisa, Rome...

Close 2nd - Mexico City and outskirts...

Worst - Spain and Ibiza...

Best Vacation ever was my then girlfriend and I backpacking through Europe in 2002 for 3 months. We landed in Amsterdam and stayed in Harlem.

Made our way through Germany, Austria, Switzerland where I proposed in the Jungfraü near Gimmelwald, down through Northern Italy to Milan, Firenze, the hill towns out east, over to Cinque Terre where we spent a week chilling at the beach.

We went north from there through Monaco, southern France, over to Mont st Michelle(sp?), up through Paris(quickly...not a fan), up to the Caen and the beaches of Normandy to see where my Grandfather came ashore during D-day and take in the Memorial d' Caen. (Incredible, as they had just received some of the steel structure from the World Trade Center).

We then went through to Belgium and spent a week in the old center of Bruges, which is beautiful, just stay away from the center square restaurants. We used Bruges as a home base and trained around the countryside and up to Gent. Headed back to Amsterdam for a couple nights and flew home.

We spent a month in Italy with my son for his 13th birthday in the summer of 2018 and got to see a lot more of Italy. Venice, Bologna, the Ferrari, Lamborghini museums, and Pagani factory tour and museum. Pisa, back to Cinque Terre for a few beach days, Firenze , hit the second Palei in Siena , down through Rome, Napoli, Sorrento etc. Beautiful country and great food and wine.

I spent a week in a cabana next to the Gulf of Mexico and ate at Hartwood, an amazing restaurant in the Yucatan Peninsula...twice. Please pardon the point and shoot images, I was on vacation.

So far I would have to say Bali. People were awesome and beyond friendly. Everything was dirt cheap and the sights were incredible. I did not intend to spend nearly as much time driving around on a scooter but I am so glad we did that instead of taxis. Basically anything goes on the road and its quite dangerous but very fun. Plus you can rent one for $5 a day. Can't wait to go back someday.

wife and i really enjoy travel and it has become even more enjoyable now that our kids are old enough (18 & 20 yrs old) to really appreciate it. last year's family trip to ireland was definitely my favorite because my kids were so engaged in helping plan it and deciding where we went, and what we visited and experienced. we stayed 3 days/nights in dublin and then did 5 nights in B&Bs in the west/southwestern part of the island. the trip included a complete audible on our next to last day to skip blarney castle -- my son said "every freakin person who comes to ireland kisses the blarney stone" -- and instead take a boat trip out to the skellig islands aka "skywalker island". ireland is a beautiful country with super friendly people.

some pics...

Family (boys teenagers) flew out to Seattle and did a 1 week Alaska cruise on brand new Norwegian ship. When we returned we drove accross to Montana and stayed in a cabin for few nights, hiked GNP, explored Flat Head Lake.

We drove down and did a day at Yellowstone (needed more !) and then headed to Craters of the Moon park and did some cave hiking. Ended in Salt Lake and flew back.

Took an F82 across the usa without figuring out how your adress system works. An awesome month. Got tons of pics and never got anywhere on time.

Did the same thing through canada from west coast to east the summer following. Drove through the usa back and that was way lamer.

Younger I traveled alone everywhere and I've pretty much done the shit I did in the usa all over Europe too.a good tip to all travelers: try to keep up with the country you're in, and also, your german ain't that good.
