Many, if not the majority, of folks have not gotten the update. I actually was thinking they stopped sending it out given the issues people have been experiencing with the install but someone posted today that they got the notification.

Going by the previous posts, seems like the update doesn't really have much to offer. And considering the fact that it'll wipe out all of the coding that I've done, I'm glad I haven't got the update. As it is, I have no issues with the current version of the software. Everything works as expected

My Apple Watch alerted me this morning about the update. I then initiated the process which will continue as I drive around today then park the car in the garage this afternoon for the final phase.

Ok, after the update transferred to the car, since it's an X vehicle, it waits 30 minutes to cool down. It said it would advise when the installation can begin. I waited 90 minutes and checked. It presented the checklist with everything checked except the top one about the key. Didn't know what to do so I took the key and locked the vehicle.
Now what happens?

Maybe there was interference for your key? Mine was initally unchecked for the key too. But I held key near steering column and it worked. You have to start update after that. So yours probably didn’t start if you didn’t see the 10 second countdown

Interesting note that upgrade runs with car’s A\C on… or am I only one?

Update: finished successfully no issues after 20 mins. Very annoying to lose seat position… seems basic

I tried it again and all boxes were checked. Update installed after about 15 minutes. During the update, the car sure did emit all kinds of sound from under the hood and under the rear right side of car. Whining, clicking, etc.

Update: Not that it's connected with the OTA update but my car received the 2023-1 navigation map update yesterday.

Noticing that mode 2 cruise control is disengaging auto steering much more liberally now with 07/2022. Same sections of road that used to work before now don’t work 🤷🏽‍♂️🫤

Maybe that's BMW's idea of "Function updates and quality enhancements" which is part of the 07/2022.58 update.

December build came with 11/2022.28. I'm not sure if that's newer or older based on the number scheme than the current OTA?

That is newer, the OTAs are always at least one major version behind. Major versions are released there times a year: March (03/yyyy.xx), July (07/yyyy.xx) and November (11/yyyy.xx). Sub/minor versions (xx) are constantly being released.

I-Drive 7 Update at Dealership

I am taking my X7 in for a recall notice and required brake fluid flush. I want the dealer to upgrade to the latest I-Drive software. I'd imagine that is 11/2022.??.

Is there something that I should tell them is not working properly in order for them not to tell me to wait for the OTA update, which is currently 7/2022.

Thanks.

Since the OTA has been out for a couple of months or so and you haven't received it you should just be able to say that is the problem and refer to the SIB for vehicles not receiving the remote software update.

as mentioned, you can show them the SIB, but most have success getting an update by the dealer due to an “issue”. I reported a couple during my recent annual maintenance and was updated to 11/2022

Even reporting an issue (whether real or not) doesn't mean the dealer will install the latest update. They usually need to see/confirm the issue.

This is a 2021 SIB. Is there a more recent one?

Discharged Battery SIB

BMW has issued an SIB (see attached) concerning the programming of the transmission which can cause a total discharge of the 12V battery in vehicles with the Mild Hybrid system. If your battery suddenly is dead take it to your dealer.

The affected vehicles are:

The version distributed with the OTA falls into the range of iDrive versions where the issue may be present. The range for the G05 is 07/2022.50 through 11/2022.31.

Seems like the best advice right now is just to pass on the 07/2022 update and wait for the next scheduled service and have the dealer update it to 11/2022.latest

Yes, if the vehicle fits the criteria then it shouldn't be installed. Hopefully they are being proactive enough where the OTA is now only being sent out to vehicles without the mild hybrid.

Hung OTA Upgrade

I’m currently trying to complete an OTA upgrade from my current version 03/2022.64 to newer version 07/2022.58. The ‘transfer’ of the successful MyBMW app ‘download’ to the car using the MyBMW app seems to be hung (status bar not advancing when viewing idrive Car/Settings/General-Settings/Remote-Software-Upgrade).

Car battery is fully charged, and I’ve been driving around trying to get the transfer from the phone’s MyBMW app to the car to restart & complete, but the status bar never advances….it’s frozen for 2 days now.

FYI, the upgrade automatically downloaded into the MyBMW app on both my phone AND my wife’s phone (two different BMW-IDs). So I’m not actually sure which phone accounts for the current partial transfer state, but so far neither phone’s MyBMW app seems to have automatically restarted the transfer to the car while we are driving with the phone connected to the car as required via Bluetooth/Wi-Fi/Apps.

Perhaps the idrive system is confused by the two different phones attempting an upgrade. Or maybe this is just a continuation of the OTA issues others have experienced.
