To my knowledge, they haven't officially announced a "recall" for already sold vehicles. This is a stop sale of cars that have not been delivered/sold.

I would think that once they sort out the programming and apply it to the unsold/stopped vehicles, then they will move forward with a "recall" of affected vehicles already in use.

To further my point, can you even issue a recall without a fix?

Sending out notices to current owners would just flood service departments with requests and panicked owners for which they do not have a solution.

Without these forums, not one current owner would likely know there is even an ongoing issue.

Notified today regarding a fix date

I'm waiting to pick up my X5M and was told today that a remedy will be out on 11/23! From the dealer. Dealer also knows that I have a LONG drive to get there, so they are being careful with the info they give me.

Same boat - please keep me up to date on your intel. My X5MC has been at the dealership for a week and the GM says he has no update on the fix and release date. This is crazy.

This is what I received verbatim:

Promising news...I just spoke with my Service Manager. Sounds like its just going to be a software update, not a part replacement, that may be available to the techs as early as next week.

If this ends up being the case, I will probably pause my transaction by a week to take advantage of whatever additional year end incentives are rolled out.

This is my 4th BMW and 3rd M, so I wasn't really considering other brands . . . but I must admit that this pause has made me second guess whether or not I should drive some other things at or above this price range.

It would be nice if BMW added a bit of an inconvenience incentive for those of us that kept their deal despite this issue. Or, since deliveries will happen so close to December, just offer whatever year-end incentives are to those of us with pending deals.
I am feel the same way regarding other brands. My M5C has been sitting at the dealer since the 5th. The lack of official communications is mind boggling.

In speaking with a BMWNA CS, yesterday, they mentioned I would be eligible for some kind of "compensation" for being without a vehicle that was available to me. He couldn't elaborate what that would be, as it's based upon time waiting. Meaning until I get the car, they can't offer anything.

Is this worldwide or North America? My car is due in next week for the first recall DME update.

I'm wondering now if it is related to this issue.
I doubt they would stop delivery unless the fault has the potential to cause an accident.
Has any one else experienced this?
Sounds like it could be bad gas?

Depends on the issue, but yes. There have been recalls where they just continually inspect a part, and perhaps replace that part with the same faulty part until a real fix is developed (e.g. a suspension component that wears much faster than it should, a seal that is prone to leak, etc.).

I'm in the same situation as my X5MC was delivered last week. I cut the deal with a $750 rebate back in October. Today I was emailed an offer from BMW for a $3500 rebate on X5's. Going to be some pencil sharpening at close. I agree BMW would be wise to kick something our way as loyal consumers for waiting on a product that can't be released.

So as I posted earlier all 3 of my M cars got this flagged service stop. X3Mc, X5Mc and my M8c and all that happened was an inspection and it was cleared. They check a fuel tank vent. I am told that so far no vehicle at my dealership has failed. This is a precaution to make sure fuel vapor does not build up in a compartment in the chassis per my service advisor. Hope this helps.

I got the exact same email and noted that a) None of the X5s actually seemed to have more than a 2500 incentive (despite the ad indicating 3500) and b) the X5M, both 2020 and 2021, had zero incentive.

EDIT: I just checked (~2pm PT on Nov 19) and the incentives have been updated. https://www.bmwusa.com/special-offers.html The M50i has up to $4k off! Zero for 2021 X5M, only $500 for 2020 X5M.

I received 1000 for loyalty, but I am guessing that more will be available 12/1 as the email indicated that the offer is good through 11/30.

If you check the M5 forum (which has a robust discussion about the stop sale), a number of people have reported (take that for what its worth . . .) that BMWNA has indicated that they/we may be due to 'compensation' based directly on length of time without a vehicle that we could have otherwise acquired.

I can understand that stance if one was already paying for a vehicle through BMW Finance, but I am am not getting my hopes up for those of us who have had our deliveries delayed (and have not started making payments) receiving anything.

Time will tell . . .

That was me where they told me on the phone about compensation. He said it would be directly related to the time spent without having the vehicle, if that vehicle was available for delivery.

Reading between the lines, compensation for the hold for a vehicle on a boat or at a VPC probably wouldn't fly. But for me, I could/should have taken delivery of it 2 weeks ago (it arrive to the dealer the day the stop hold was put in).

Seriously? Have you been called for a recall action? I have my 2020 M5 from 2 weeks now and it was produced in the same period of this tank issue production.

I asked this morning to my dealer (Italy) and I’m waiting for an answer.

Hi all.

Yesterday I have been in service.

They changed me the oil after the engine burn-in and also solved the tank fuel ventilation issue - by software programming.

I took approx 3-4hours.

So if that is true that would indicate the stop sale should be lifted any day. This is great news and makes me hopeful. Thanks for posting.

My car is being updated now; will be released by EOB today

Looks like the patch is rolling out early. My dealer just called to indicate that the car is in Service having the patch applied.

I still need to have it shipped (I bought it 1 state over), really superb experience at BMW of Salem Oregon by the way.

I get the sense that they are very, very eager to get this done and transacted this month because things went from 0 to 100 on getting the transaction done very fast.

After talking to them, I decided not to push to 12/1 in case the incentives get much better. Instead, if that happens, I will just deal directly with BMWNA customer service. Seems like a very easy and reasonable case to make when I have a signed deal from 11/1 and the delay was not caused at POS.

Yes, it is rolling out early. I got a call from BMWNA a few hours ago. They informed me the instructions for the fix on my car were sent to my dealer mid-morning, and there are no outstanding issues holding it from delivery (after the fix is applied).

Still waiting to hear back from the dealer that they have the fix and are applying it. Hoping to get the car, tomorrow.
