Wait what’s with the Heads Up Display pictured in the video review? Mine doesn’t look like this at all.

I get this seems like a test mode or something but the basic features displayed all look different than my US HUD.

That appears to be the way mine is laid out, perhaps you have some options turned off.

This is what mine looks like. It’s so good on a road trip when using your GPS navigation that you never have to look down at either displays. Crisp, color with depth. I have never seen a heads up display even close to this good. Others HUD always look a bit washed out or fuzzy.

Hard to get a clear pic. (I turned off my speed limit warning)

Hmm... I’ll have to check it out.

FWIW, the BMW’s HUD a great display but I actually find it less useful than the one in my wife’s Hyundai Kona Ultimate (a pretty great little SUV that actually beat out the BMW X2 for our second vehicle as we bought both our little and big SUVs in the same month). That heads up display shows blind spot warnings and the status of the lane keep assist in addition to the usual items like speed limit/current speed, forward collision warning, and cruise.

I find the lack of blind spot monitoring and lane keep status indicators in the HUD pretty glaring omissions now that I’ve experienced them. It’s super nice to not even have to turn your head until you know you’re clear for a lane change. (Versus checking several times.)

It doesn't have blind spot but the cruise and lane keep is in there.

Lane keep is there? I only see it in the instrument cluster. I’ll have to check my options.

It’s the blind spot I miss the most. It’s an absolute game changer when driving in heavy traffic. It’s the car equivalent of the no look pass.

Yes, look at my picture you can see the steering wheel denoting that the cruise with distance and steering/lane control is active.

That is a tremendously dangerous way to drive. The blind spot monitoring is not intended to be used to make lane changes, you should still be turning your head to do that.

Haha I always turn my head before I actually change lanes. It’s just that in my X5 I have to continually turn my head until the lane is clear. With the Kona, I can wait until it says it’s clear, then do one quick check before I change lanes.

I will have to see why I don’t see more options in my HUD.

The Germans purposely put blindspot monitor lights so you have to physically turn your head to verify.

Those "wrinkles" are intentional. Enough people commented on prior generation X5s saying the rear seats weren't quite comfortable enough until the leather wore in that they purposefully use a bit of extra material to allow more give in the seat when you sit in it, thus making it more comfortable from day 1.

It's not sloppy craftsmanship or QC, it's intentional design. Sure, it doesn't look like the most beautiful thing out there, but if you actually use those seats, you'll absolutely appreciate it.

Don't even bother, some people just refuse to face reality and love to have something to moan about.

If you don’t like the wrinkles, you can go for the synthetic leather - not sure if it’s available on the 50i models, but it’s no wrinkles for my 40i and nobody is complaining about being uncomfortable in the back seat after riding in real leather back seats of my Porsche Macan S and VW Touareg V8 for the past couple of years. And by nobody, I mostly mean my teenage boys who complain about a lot...

I have to explain again. There are two phases to changing lanes.

Phase 1: Wait until there's a space to change lanes
Phase 2: Actually change lanes

When driving the Kona, it's heads up display tells me (more reliably) that the space to my left/right is free and I can safely change lanes. (Phase 1) Then I do a single head-check to verify and change lanes. (Phase 2)

When driving the X5, I have to take my eyes off the road several times to turn my head and check the mirrors while I wait for a space to open up. (Phase 1) Then when one is open, I do one final head-check to verify and change lanes. (Phase 2)

In my opinion, using the HUD blind spot indicator in the Kona HUD is actually SAFER than checking your mirrors until the lane you want to switch to is open.

As a long time 35i guy and now new convert to 50i, I have to say it's worth it. I was happy with the 35i but the 2 things about my f15 that bothered me was the body roll and the occasional "I wish I had just a little more power." My g05 with DHP solves both, no question.

Yet, overall experience still tarnished by the iDrive 7 gremlins despite software update.

Please - I’m begging you - go to the “Rear Seat Wrinkly” thread and repeat this (and then go hide behind something)
