F95 or GLE63s??
Open question - would you buy the GLE63s or the F95?
I think in real life the Merc GLE looks better than the F95 and has better tech in terms of mild hybrid and cleverer air suspension and dampers. But the F95 has a wider performing engine. |

Based solely on the Motor1 comparison, it sounds like the GLE 63s is a phenomenal vehicle that stacks up well against the F95 in all respects. In fact, if I recall the reviewer prefers the GLE in every way except the seats and maybe the handling. While I expect to be a little jealous of the air suspension in the GLE for daily use, I’m still going with the F95. Just looks alone - inside and out - the BMW is more my style. I think the front end of the Mercedes is frumpy. Also, having owned an M car and a Mercedes (albeit not an AMG), the ownership experience was incomparable. I wish I would have never sold my ‘95 M3, whereas I would never have bought my ‘05 E500 if I had to do it all over again. Two different cars, I know, but my perception is that the M cars are just more special.

There is not a huge difference to be able for me to jump the ship. I personally love more stiffer Suspension, besides that there is nothing that would make me want consider Merc.
Mine 13th ///M is coming and many more to come

Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like status is a major reason people buy a Mercedes. We buy Bimmers because we love driving these cars (and SUVs/SAVs). Just my take.

Before I was set on the M, my wife and I test drove a 2020 GLE and X5 x40i. What a night and day difference between these two cars. The GLE felt like I was driving a boat and the X5 drove like a car. The handling on the GLE was terrible.
I know the GLE was not an AMG but our test drive was enough to cross out the GLE off our list. |

Status is also why a lot of people buy BMW, us enthusiasts are still a small group after all, hence why BMW has been making their cars softer over the years, because they have to appeal to the general public, and their largest group of buyers which sadly don't find driving as exciting as we do.

As for OP's question, it seems Motor1 has an opinion regarding the debate and one of their writers was able to drive both the new GLE and X5. If you can deal with the harsh suspension setup, it looks like the X5 M is a winner. Hopefully as the two arrive at dealers there'll be more comparison tests from reviewers and perspective buyers.

If you want a powerful and capable luxury vehicle, go with the Merc. If you want a real performer, albeit with some comfort compromises, go with the Bimmer. If you plan to seriously mod your car, definitely go with the Bimmer.

I would say the X5 is more powerful and luxurious than the Merc. The GLE's interior is nice when looking from a distance. But up close you'll quickly realize the material quality isn't as good as the X5.

Trying to be totally objective, I find the BMW’s merino leather and build materials a tick higher than what MB is using. BMW just feels more “premium”. These are characteristics that affect you every day and solidifies the cost of admission. If you don’t care or even notice these things you might as well buy a Trackhawk and call it a day.
