Creaking Noise from Steering Wheel

I've had my car almost a year now and I have finally had it with a creaking noise that is coming from a plastic trim piece on the front of the steering wheel. It's coming from the silver aluminum colored plastic piece that runs across the top of the center section of the wheel and this part is behind the airbag/horn. The noise is from the silver plastic piece rubbing against the dark grey/black colored piece behind it. See attached photo of the area. It occurs because the steering wheel flexes just enough to keep moving that plastic piece.
My previous X3 M40i had the same wheel and it didn't make a peep.

Has anyone else had the same problem? Thank you

I had the same around the trim on my car. Not hard to remove the airbag so you can access what’s behind there but what I did was use some krytox lube I had for the window trims and wiped a thin layer of it on both sides of a thin card. Like a metro card or something similar then inserted it around that trim so it would transfer some of it in between the trims making the noise. Afterwards just wipe the exterior areas and that should help. Either I resolved it with my trick or I just got use to the creak and dont notice it anymore.

Alan, I was going to mention it at my 1 year service on Tuesday, but I bet they will say its normal. Just like for you and xmanpro experienced.
Which kryptox lube did you use?

So since the area in question is a tight fit, should I use the oil? Or in the heat, do you think that might flow into places it shouldn't go?

I think the cream is preferred as its longer lasting since it stays put better than the oil. I had creaks all around that silver trim even around the steering wheel buttons so I did a combo depending on how much space I had to work with.

Alan, I noticed they offer GPL 205 and a GPL 206 grease. I believe the GPL 206 has more viscosity at the same temps.
I suppose either one would work.
