BMW Style 744 21" X Line wheels have arrived!!

Hello all, some of you might have read/responded to my earlier thread asking about the tires available for the Style 744 wheels (275/40/R21 front; 315/35/R21 rear).

I've bit the bullet on ordering the wheels. Shout out to ECS Tuning for shipping the wheels out to me and gratitude to UPS for getting the 4 sizeable parcels to me through this winter storm in the US the past week. I've just received all 4 wheels in great condition (I think), and am ecstatic.

The wheels cost an arm and a leg, but shipping fees were extremely reasonable and this was the cheapest I could find these and was really keen on getting them.

I've just dropped off the wheels in for a ceramic coat at my local detailer (as part of a detailing package to ceramic coat the whole car to be done a little later).

I did notice an indent on the exterior wheel barrel - appears in at least 2 of the wheels in a similar size and shape - anyone know if this is from the manufacturing process or something else? (see photos). Does not appear to affect anything though. The wheel face otherwise looks amazing. Looking forward to having the wheels/tires fitted in the coming weeks and likely more photos to come later.

Also curious to see some sort of seam line along the length of the barrel on the wider 315 rear wheels. Not sure what they are (if they are indeed seams, it would make me question the rigidity of these OEM wheels).

Let me know if anyone wants to know anything about the wheels before I get them fitted. I've taken the liberty to weigh them (since I couldn't find this info online).

Approximate weight of the wheels (excluding tires and wheel caps):
Front (mfg# 36116883761): 17.1kg / 37.7lb
Rear (mfg# 36116883762): 18.4kg / 40.5 lb

Cheers!

As a guy who has spent a fortune on wheels in the past across many brands and cars - a dent like that I would notify them.

It personally wouldn't bother me THAT much, but ask them to replace the wheel - or at the very least (which they will likely do to avoid replacement cost and shipping) give you a % refund.

For the price of these wheels they should be 100% perferct.

Thanks! So is really not satisfactory for the indentations? I don't mind that much so long as it doesn't affect the performance/integrity of the wheels as they're on the exterior barrel which won't be seen once tires are fitted. If it'll cause easier leaks or rusting etc then of course a reason to be concerned (and will ask for a % refund to cover costs of needing to do so down the track).

Any clue if it'll cause any actual issues? Seems like the top grey layer was pressed into the wheel by a clamp before the top grey layer dried, since it doesn't feel scratched up, just smoothly indented at that spot.

It's only cosmetic...should have no adverse effect on functionality.

I don't want to make a fuss about it if it's only cosmetic, and it'll be hidden forever under the tires.

Really happy with the new wheels! Guess they are much more common the US though, based on photos I've seen. I have yet to see another G05 with these wheels here locally.

Nice wheel. The best fit with the XLine.

Thanks! I certainly think so haha. Keen not to mix in M Sport wheels, otherwise the 747 are really nice too imo.

Deliberating whether to also get the floating center wheel caps... but given how small these center caps are, probably barely noticeable by anyone - certainly not by me (inside the car).

If I were you I would've send that wheel back or ask what it is because that could be a weak spot for wheels when you hit a pot hole...

The grey and the 744s on the X Line looks amazing!

And kinda jealous you guys don't need a front license plate.

Edit: just realised it was to the side in your garage shot. No rules requiring it to be centered?

Thanks. It's required in California but they don't enforce it and the license plate can be anywhere in the front end.

That's very interesting. I rented a car in Nevada and drove to Utah and Arizona once. Rental car didn't have front license plates. Hopefully didn't break any rules anywhere. Lucky I didn't drive to Cali.

If it's a rental, you're not responsible for it. I'm required too (and got a ticket before) but risking it again for the love of the G05. I actually see more 19 and 20 around me. Only the 5.0 and M come with bigger wheels. 20 and 19 esp look so tiny. And the light color is not my thing. I'm so thankful my wife didn't like Coffee so we ended up with Cogna and these 21".

Yea, X Line came with 19" standard here, very tiny. Ordered and upgraded to the 744 wheels and think it makes world of difference in terms of looks. New X Line now come with 20" wheels here - a style that wasn't in the launch brochure. M Sport 40i always had 20" wheels. We rarely sell any M50's here (they're priced around the same as X5M's in the US).

I didn't get much choice with colour back then. Cognac and grey is nice.

Think I've posted this photo comparison before in the general thread, but might put it here too in case anyone else is considering these wheels.

Ben from https://www.rgsportshop.com/ installed IND side reflectors and 12mm front/15mm rear wheel spacers. No more amber reflectors on the sides and wheels look much better than before.

I believe there's only one set of options if you go for the 744 wheels, being 2 of each of the following:
  • Front mfg# 36116883761
  • Rear mfg# 36116883762

Rear wheels are wider than the front, hence the 2 different product codes.

I'm not sure why the ECS Tuning website isn't show the 45e in the compatible vehicles list, but I don't see why they shouldn't fit. I'm sure I've seen peoples' photos of the 744 wheels on a 45e. You may message ECS to double check?
