That is correct. The domestic military incentive is a year-long incentive that is renewed each January. They could lower it. When I got it on my 2019 lease it was lowered to $250 from $500. I think that amount lasted 6 months or so before they raised it back to $500.

dealer discount +
$ 3,250 military incentive +
$ 500 BMW's 1/2 of UDE +
$ 1,500 BMW CAA rebate (approved & received)

Yes, Type J and OL should not stack. As it was explained to me they submit the OL code and if BMW accepts it were good.

What dealer discount did you get and when in the process did you negotiate?

All negotiations, although little can be done nowadays, should be done before you order the vehicle.

Just checking it, the membership rebate generates on day 61 correct?
If you count the sign up day as day 1, then yes the certificate is available on day 61. Otherwise stated as 60 days from signing up. Just recently did this by signing up on August 27 and like clockwork my rebate was there on October 26.

I am thinking of getting an X1 or X2. I have read this entire 11 pages, but did not see anyone mentioned this. I understand as long as I am with PenFed for 60 days, I can generate the BMW code. I read people were able to use it even if they are not military (I am not). But I saw this sentence on the PenFed BMW offer webpage https://penfed.truecar.com/oem/landing/bmw/
"Eligible military member must be the purchaser."
Was this sentence added somewhere in the middle of 2021 (around Sept.)? If BMW sales person pointed this sentence out to me, then I have no way to argue...
Any thoughts on this? Thanks, and Happy 2022!

Here's the simplest way to think about it:

(1.) PenFed offers & manages this exact same non-military program for Audi, Benz, Honda and many others. BMW is simply one of many mfrs participating in this non-military program. You can check their website to verify this.

(2.) BMW choose to use this same non-military program, but, for various reasons of bureaucracy, add a military benefit: ability to be immediately eligible; ie no 60 day wait. That sentence doesn't apply to you as you can qualify via the other requirements. Military skips to the front of the line.

(3.) Because you're non-military, you're only eligible if you qualify via the other requirements, ie, member for 60 days

Net-net:
Military can get the incentive on day 1 vs you who only becomes eligible on day 61.

I've been getting the incentive for 11 years; trust me, you're good.

Thanks. I opened a PenFed account on 10/30/21, so I should be able to generate BMW code tomorrow (12/29/21, I have been counting days :-)
My concern is if the BMW sales person pointed out that sentence, I will have no way to argue...

That sentence has always been there. There actually is no such thing as the PenFed incentive, it is just one of the ways to obtain the BMW Domestic Military incentive. One of the qualifying criteria is to be a USAA or PenFed member for 60 days, you do not need to be affiliated with the military to use it. It is meant for them but non-military PenFed members are eligible, it is up to them whether that want to take advantage of the loophole or not.

Edit: As far as your question goes about the dealer asking, that won't happen. You are using the domestic military incentive and just that fact that you have the certificate with your name on it shows that you are eligible for it. If you haven't already, just let them know that you will be using the incentive and you will be fine.

Unless you are taking delivery in the next few days there is no need to generate the certificate now since it will expire next week. It should be renewed within a week or so.

Thanks. Yes, I am thinking of taking delivery by 12/31/21, as I also have a $1000 OL code (expiring 12/31/21) from a test drive last month at my BMW dealership.

Talking about OL code, I read in this thread that some people were able to combine OL code with PenFed code ($2000 in the case of X1 or X2). But I also saw a Table posted here that they are not combinable?

Also, I understand that if I use BMW financing service, penfed $2,000 discount (in the case of X1 or X2) will be reduced down to $500. Is this still correct?

Thanks again.

The OL code is not stackable with the military incentive. There have been some dealers that try and sneak it in but most will not since if they are audited/caught it comes out of there pocket. Besides that, most, if not all, OL codes are only valid on in stock vehicles and not custom ordered. Once again, some dealers will bypass that rule.

You are correct, when using BMWFS the incentive drops to $500.

For any confused, the PenFed incentive is a non-military program offered with many mfrs including BMW; for reasons of historic bureaucracy, it's still referred to in BMW documentation as the "military incentive" however nowadays that's just the no 60 day requirement for members of the military.

Here's the PenFed incentive website that's shows all the participanting members in the non-military program which includes BMW:

Note there's no military requirement including BMW, but does require 60 days ... In BMW's case that's all the special change: military members immediately qualify.

I just came back from my BMW dealer. Well, I was actually denied when I tried to use my PenFed code. Sales person told me I had to be active military member. I did not argue (I could not either). No X1 or X2 for me at this point. I don't really have the hard need to replace my 2018 Audi A6 anyways.

Seems like they are tightening this up...

Your dealer obviously has no clue what they are talking about. You definitely do not have to be active military to get the domestic military incentive. As has been posted multiple times in the past, there are various criteria for qualifying for the incentive. Give your salesman a call back and tell them they are wrong and you qualify for the military discount given you have the certificate due to being a member of PenFed for more than 60 days. If they give you any crap go to another dealer.

Here is the list that BMW sent to dealers last year when they announced they were going to handle the domestic military incentive on their site in addition to PenFed's and TrueCar's.

Yeah, I might try that next time. There is only one BMW dealer on Oahu, so I don't have opportunity to try my luck at another BMW dealer like most of you folks can :-)

Print your promotion out and have the dealership verify with bmw. The GM at my dealership was stuck on financing being from PenFed to get the offer, which isn’t true. I pushed back, we went back and forth few times and he agreed to call bmw to verify. So in the end, I got the PenFed credit with financing from another lender and I am not associated with Military, I have been a PenFed member for a year and was eligible for the rebate.

Can you get the $3250 credit by being a member of USAA or is that only for PenFed members?
Thanks.

Thanks.
As noted above, being a member of USAA also qualifies you for the Domestic Military Discount. Since USAA dropped their car buying service you need to get your certificate by either going to BMW's site or TrueCar. They both use ID.me to verify your status, you enter your USAA information and that will qualify you.

Once you are qualified by ID.me then anytime you go back you can print a certificate.

Was planning on doing a cash purchase of 45e with a trade-in. My sales rep says it can't be applied. Delivery is in Feb. Not sure what to do - should I cancel the order and place with another dealership
