Yeah I heard about this before as the X8M. I was excited but yeah I think I'll pass. Interior looks kinda cool though.

What's with those fugly wheel arches? Same complaint on the Cayenne Turbo GT. Why is it cheap ass plastic instead of carbon or something body colored? It looks like ass.

Who exactly is that targeted segment though? The conservative 60+ crowd I would imagine would rather have something like a Bentayga, X7 Alpina, or Cayenne Turbo/GT.

The tech bros will probably want the Model X Plaid / Rivian R1T / Lucid Gravity when it debuts. Anything full electric basically.

The influencers want the supercar badge so the Urus/DBX/Cullinan. As the brother in law to an influencer who just bought an Urus, I can confirm anecdotally (ugh!).

Wheel arches are terrible.
Not sure I like the idea of tint in front of the headlights.
Id like to see more of it in person but I do apricate companies willing to try new things and even radical ones.

Here are a few reasons why that's probably wrong:

(1.) Profit from the ... Not Core?
This forum is made up of people enthusiastic enough about at least 1 BMW model to spend time chatting about it, aka "core customers" ... if we're not ALL the target market then it must be only a subset of us plus some outsiders? Or just one of those? That's a new core, then.

(2.) A Non-Aspirational Luxury Product?
If a plurality (majority?) of existing BMW X-line customers don't aspire to an XM then who does? Can you name another luxury company where decent chunk of customers of lower tier products don't aspire to the higher tier? I can't. A niche product by definition can't be a targeted aspriational product; i.e., if you're not hitting bullseye on existing X-line customers, who's the target? And if it's only a subset, then why call it an X? Why not a new name just for that niche? Why the unaligned grouping?

(3.) Niche-eh?
So this product isn't for BMW's existing core, rather a new group, not yet excited enough about the BMW brand to be here ... what is that user persona? Ballers? Celebs? Who's the niche?


Can a luxury brand survive by making a penultimate niche product for a niche customer who notably differs from their lower-tier customers of products in the same line??

From a product strategy perspective this sounds quite dubious, so what am I missing?

It's a step in the right direction and concept are just that, concept...changes will be made to the final production vehicle. I, for one, am looking forward to BMW's foray into this space and what the ///M badge in full EV mode will signify (driving characteristics, performance, driver engagement, technology and aesthetics). Fun times...

Interior dash/tech and leather are insane. Outside is not great. Wheel arches and rear end are terrible. Don't mind the front and sides.

I don't like the XM design, but I *kinda* get what they're doing

Take the Yeezy Foam Runners for instance. Ugliest shoe I've EVER seen in my life, but they are ultra popular. No other shoe even remotely looks like it.. but they are extremely comfortable to wear

BMW is making some of the ugliest cars I've ever seen, but nothing else looks like it. Drive it, and it will probably be a lot of fun. BMW is trying to be FAR away from every other automotive design, attracting customers that want to be "different". I'm not a fan of the design right now, but all of the famous rappers/athletes will probably buy one of these, and it will somehow magically become "cool" and will sell out like the ugly M2/M3 & iX.
