Not with my 45e but I did with my 40e. Accelerating after a red ligt in a corner on a completely dry road. The rear broke out like in a drift but it regained control by it self.

I think you can feel the extra weight if you do a slalom type of maneuver, going back and forth quickly. And in hybrid mode, the suspension is definitely softer since it has air (compared to a fixed suspension setup or M adaptive). Those two things would make a difference if you drove both one right after the other. Now....in sport mode, with firmer suspension, the 45e would be much closer in the handling department. In my driving, which is NOT aggressive, on ramps at 25mph above the posted speed limit, there is no body lean at all. And evasive maneuvering is spot on. I do not expect it to handle like a sports sedan, but I do pay attention to how it drives...isn't that why we ALL buy/lease one of these? So for me, where most of the time I want quiet and luxury, handling above what it already does is not needed. If you really want aggressive driving dynamics in an X5....M50i or M is where you need to go.

There is the manufactured "woooooooo" sound on the 45e, though, which is kind of space-age sounding and a different kind of cool. |

The two configurations are very close in power to weight ratios, so ultimate acceleration differences are probably more the result of production variances, the track, and the day.
The much greater torque with the 45e from standstill is noticeable, but the turbo engine is designed to develop boost at quite low rpms compared to older designs, which helps...but, max torque with an electric motor from zero rpm fills in the start nicely. |

Did you find the ride quality in the 40i significantly smoother than in the e45 on broken roads? I'm finding the ride in the e45 much busier than on the Cayenne (just air suspension, no PDCC). |

Both of my X5s had air suspension; I find the 45e to definitely be smoother than the 40i. The extra battery weight is noticeable in the ride which reduces the bumps. Did your Cayenne have RFTs? On my "3rd X5 ago," I had the 21" staggered wheels with the M-Sport. Since we get winter around here, I replaced the summer tires with non-RFTs (because it was the only all-season option), and that improved the ride considerably. Perhaps it's not the suspension that's bugging you so much as the tires? (I have a love/hate relationship with RFTs myself, but in the end they are more convenient.) |
