$123k MSRP + $10k + taxes… you end up with a loan around $145 - $150k

But, who is counting?

People pay this kind of money for attention and the car sure attracts it.

Its all about having the top of line in the trim line.
Where do you live that an X5MC gets any kind of attention, and especially people taking pics?? I would bet that 99.9% of the motoring public don't know the difference between a base X3 or an X5MC like yours. To them, it's just a BMW SUV.

I cant imagine what i'd do with all that extra power in the V8 variants, nevermind the M competition models. So my question is, do you people who have these live out in the open country or something? where on earth are you able to consistently use all this power?
I like having the power of the M50i and not using it, rather then wanting to use it and not having it. I did take it to the drag strip shortly after it's break in period and it ran a 12.4@113mph. Those numbers used to be Z06 and Viper territory only 10 years ago! Now my wife's baby hauler does it. It's a beautiful thing!

Always get the biggest engine you can in whatever you're driving, there are no regrets that way. Life is too short, drive the fun stuff

I'd say "it's just an SUV".

No joke, I saw a blinged out Urus parked next to one of those modded up minis and there was a little crowd around the mini snapping pics ... maybe there are areas of the World where people care/notice SUVs but the US West Coast sure doesn't seem to be one of them.

I meant that the only thing anyone may notice is the make, in this case, just another (insert insult here) BMW. But you're right, most people see the shape of an SUV, and that's it. Whereas car guys notice an M car, or an AMG, etc.

nope, I'm all for luxury. I was actually wanting to upgrade to a v8 for my next vehicle but I was trying to see how/justify people were using theirs who live in a city with a lot of traffic. I was essentially wondering if a big engine is 'wasted' in commuter traffic circumstances.
I had a '17 Audi S6 with the 4.0L V8, fantastic engine, sounded amazing, was very fast, but, I averaged 9mpg in my day to day driving. It wasn't the cost of the gas that bothered me, it was the extra weekly fill up, just annoying. So do consider that if moving to the M50i as a commuter, you will be seeing a gas station much more often.

yeah, ultimately this will be the key factor in EV adoption ... no extra trips, fill up in the garage, and even if utility prices fluctuate they're a combined bill you get every month vs a payment (or two) you make every week .

Were you treating the gas pedal like a on/off light switch for every mile you drive to average 9mpg?? How is that possible? I know of guys with TRX trucks who struggle to get it below 11mpg average who drive like lunatics.

I can't get my Raptor below 14mpg and I drive it pretty hard.

Is this S6 highly modified?

Stop and go, rarely over 45mph and short distances (less than 10 miles to a destination). I enjoy horsepower, but I don't drive like a lunatic. Edit to add: I check my gas mileage manually, I never trust the trip computer, it is always optimistic. If I went by that, my S6 averaged 13mpg.

OK, I'll bite.

The N63 engine variants have been putting a smile on my face since they came out each time I drive them. You buy them to feel the power and to know that you have it when and if you need it.

Even in Germany nowadays, it is very rare that you find an empty stretch during normal daily commuting hours to use the power of any car pretty much.

Also, how much power is enough/right? As long as you can go from A to B and reach maximum legally allowed speeds, you do not need any more power than that.

So, that makes any engine that BMW(or any other manufacturer) sells in the US an extravagant indulgence, thus unnecessary according to the OP's logic.

I constantly find myself amazed that the 40i I'm driving is the WEAKEST powertrain option of the three available in the U.S. Especially with the mild hybrid assist, it doesn't just feel "quick enough" but is ENJOYABLY quick. Compared to my old E70 35i, which wasn't a lot lower in hp/tq, it feels like a much faster car.

Any lingering thoughts I had about the m50i are gone. It's pointless IMO, especially with gas prices the way they are.

Exactly! If we went by what we "need", a 1 bedroom apartment and a Prius would do.

That would be your definition of "pointless", but everyone has different taste/needs/wants.

Nicely put.

I would of definitely regretted it had I not opted for the M50i. If you can afford it, go for it

The occasional traffic light sprint? Really anyone in a big city would probably just be getting it for the looks (Maybe not the M50i, but X5M) and status coupled with practicality.
