Considered trading in for an X5M... but...
Not that I "hate" my M50i, particularly considering all the work I've put into it.
But... the X5M looks so much cooler... and those seats.... wow. I can install a set of lower springs/struts in 1 day, and it'll be perfect. Yea, I'll lose my air suspension and my trailer hitch... I get that. But.... according to the BMW USA website..... I'd lose a lot more too. No more acoustic (double pane) glass? No more Bowers & Wilkins stereo? No more rear entertainment option? Am I right about this? Did they discontinue these options?

My best friend has a G05 X5 with the Harman Kardon.... and it sounds "fine".... but nothing compared to my B&W. I could almost deal with the other stuff by trading up to an X5M..... but the unavailability of B&W is a deal-breaker.

Not sure if the X5Ms get the double pane glass or not - do we have any verification from BMW that X5M for sure don't have double pane? My X5M doesn't seem loud in any way on the highways, etc FWIW, but I have no runtime with a X5 that for sure has it. |

Yeah, I noticed X7s & Alpinas have "acoustic glass" but never noticed that on X5s ... but also wasn't looking. Good info!

I did a ton of research and went to the dealer to buy an M50i. It was everything I wanted in an SUV and had the most important component (N63 motor) and being a family SUV, I didn't really consider the X5M. In the past, i've had an E46 M3, E60 M5, and an F80 M3.
But... when I saw the X5M in the showroom and looked the the seats and interior, I was pretty much sold.. A nice long test drive of the X5M completely blew me away. I don't find the ride stiff in anyway. It reminded me how I felt when I bought my E46 M3 new back in 2001. It was just something else.. At the end of the day, I would have been completely fine and happy with the M50i, but I pulled a yolo. |
