Mine isn't car-analysis version, it's the OEM version. I read somewhere on here that the OEM shifter needed to be coded to get the X light on. I'll keep researching it. Thanks.

Ahh yes, that needs coding then I think

The iDrive controller snaps into the center console and has a dedicated connector, so you're good there. The rest of the center console should be fine (but note they all share one connection - ie shifter and all buttons).

Removal is easy. Move front seats all the way back. *Disco the batteries!* pull off two side carpeted panels. There are two or three star/hex screws on each side. Once removed, use a soft tool to gently pry up the entire center console, it's one big piece including wood trim. Disconnect two light bars, the center connector, and then the iDrive connector. From there you have a few screws for iDrive and then pop it out.
I have fried my 2022 x4 center console...
My dealer placed order new center console about 3 weeks ago, but still no ETA yet.

How long does it took for your new console arrived?

I have read some reviews on Amazon and it seems that the people shorting out their boards have X7s and probably only disconnected one battery. I want to get this one off Ebay but I'm still a little hesitant:

If you disconnect both batteries then no need to worry about frying anything in your car. Disconnecting only the trunk battery is going to cause your electronics to fry that are connected to the battery under the hood so that is a no brainer.

Is there a way to get a version for the actual M model? (The one on car analysis shows an Amazon link for the M but it just adds a logo onto the crystal, not any actual component for the transmission changer being on the shifter.

Hey everyone. Quick question. What’s the difference between the crystal shift knob and the crystal shift knob with ambient lighting on the car-analysis site?

The standard one only has white lighting in it. For X models, the ambient one looks to be able to change colors based on the interior ambient light color chosen in iDrive.

My Crystal knob and shifter set from Ali Express.

People are shorting the boards out because theyre not following directions. Even though the entire board was removed from my car for installation, the two batteries were still disconnected.

Here's my contribution but with the ///M Logo

Hi guys- I just got into a new 2023 X5 40i. Traded my M3 to a dealer that made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I really like this SUV.

My car came with the standard plastic shifter. I really disliked that. Really the only thing I didn't like about the car. Found this thread and ordered a crystal set from https://car-analysis.com/. Bought just before the price drop from $399-$249. I sent them an email and they promptly refunded me the $150. Very nice of them.

Anyway, I want to point out it works perfectly if you just remove the center console. No battery disconnecting needed. Plus, this gives you the opportunity to work on the shifter out of the car on a bench. WAY easier that way. It's not terribly difficult to do. Just pop off the carpeted covers below the console on both driver and passenger sides. It's just a series of clips. Then remove 4 screws (T10). Two on each side. The whole center console lifts out. You'll need to unclip a few wires there.

But that's really it. Once it's out there are about a dozen screws (T10's) to slightly disassemble the shifter module from the surround. It's almost impossible to screw up. Took about an hour or so.

Nice product. Totally recommend. Good luck!

Any of you guys can point me in the right direction for the circuitboard possibly looking into repairing the iDrive shift control circuit board.

Somehow, my fast ass forgot to disconnect it the battery, and now I get a error P button not functioning.
Thanks

I am not positive, but I think the guys that have blown it up, had to replace the shift module. (which is the bulk of the thing).

Not that it helps you immediately, but I have an OEM assembly (from a M50i) that has been upgraded with the glass start/stop, glass shifter with ambient color changing and glass idrive controller knob... that I am going to sell. This is the one that has a cable you run to the glove box LED and the shifter will change colors with the reset of the Ambient color controls.

I had found an entire OEM assembly from a M50i that I chose to upgrade vs. molesting the original one in my car. I am upgrading to a 2023 (ordered) and am putting my original back in. I ordered the new one with Clarity so I don't need the one I am pulling out. I will put it up in the buy/sell area after I pull it out.

Correct.

The iDrive controller is a separate module, so not impacted by this. If you fried the shifter, it’s part of the overall assembly integrated when the drive mode buttons etc. for me, none of those responded to touch. Had to replace entire thing and move the iDrive controller over.

Nah I have a CPO warranty, the freaking tech say that the code he was getting was for water damge , 🤦🏾‍♂️ then they send me pictures of old coffee stain saying, I spill coffee and that why it didn’t work anymore. So after some arguing text they replace it brand new for half.
🤦🏾‍♂️. I end up paying 1k for the installation lesson learn please disable the batteries..

Installation is not difficult, but you need to disconnect the battery.

Perhaps you can safely work around battery disconnect issues by removing the entire center module. There's one harness that powers the shifter/buttons, one that powers the iDrive controller, and two connections for the light bars.

Overall removal is easy. There are carpet panels running the length of the console, they pop-off easily. From there you have four hex screws, after removal the entire center stack can be gently lifted (use something soft/an interior pry-tool, as to not damage any surfaces).
removing the entire center module is the most convenient
