X4M or X6M60i

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hello,

Please help me choose. I’m 25years old, no kids, and trying pick between the X4M or an X6 M60i

Pros of X4M - True M, smaller, quicker, more fun to drive, higher speed limits
Cons- No Curve idrive8 screen, backend lacks aggression and no V8

Pros of X6 M60i - More presence, aggressive look, V8 roar, LCI refresh and believe it or not better gas mileage than the X4M
Cons- At 196 inches long might be too big for me, higher price point, seeing M60i instead of M competition

I have genuinely looked at both cars and just when I think I know which one I like, i look at the other and decide it’s that one. Please if anyone can provide personal opinions, advocate for one etc, just wanted to make sure I’m considering every possible factor in making a decision . Thanks

I loved driving the X4M. However it's too stiff and i'm pretty sure it's going into a new generation within the next 1-2 years. X6 M60i makes more sense. More comfortable, more tech, and one hell of an engine.
Hope that helps

G05 is a large car. Not by suv standards but if you don't need the room its hard for me to justify it over a X4M.

Forget about the size for a minute because I think the bigger question comes down to the type of driving/ride you prefer. Stiff ride for aggressive driving or soft ride for more cruising.

Hey,

As I’m thinking of it, the X4M has no point. Either you really need an SUV, in which case you get the properly sized one (i.e. X5 M60i), with all the benefits of size, comfort, quality, tech, etc. Oh, and did I mention a V8?

Or you only think you need an SUV, in which case a jacked up, coupe-like SUV in the form of X4M really doesn’t serve you any favors. In this scenario, I fail to see **any** advantage of X4M over the regular G80 M3. You get better performance, better handling, (subjectively) better looks, and more street cred (after all what is a more iconic name for BMW than M3?)

Whichever way I look at it, there’s no argument in favor of the X4M in your case

id rather have an SUV if I lived where it snowed ie x4m vs m3 - m3 is asking to get killed in if it snows regardless if it has AWD (I don't even know if it does) its too low.

Yep, this is excellent advice for a 25 yr old for sure. X3/X4 is slated for a new generation for '25 I think.

Lol, thanks. I think the M3 is too small for me and is not practical as a daily. I had the M340i and the M3 just feels like I want to remain a kid. I wanted an SUV as my next car, a big body if that makes sense. I thought that would be in 3 years, you know when I am preparing to start a family and stuff , but unfortunately Atlanta happened to me (my car was stolen from my apartment complex). So now I have to fast forward it.

I actually think bmw will discontinue it. They announced SOP for X3 but not X4 yet. And with the X3 selling like 80k units to the X4 10k unit, it’s only a matter of time before the replace it with more EV units. With that being said, there are two main things I cannot get over with the current X4M;

1. Hasn’t changed since 22, so no idrive8 curved screen. I kinda got used to the larger screen cos my last car was the M340i. I also risk them actually doing a refresh and I’m stuck with the same vehicle for another 3 years

2. The back of the X4M is so generic. No ounce of aggression.

My only fear with the X6 M60i is that it’s not an M. I know, seems like I wanna have my cake and eat it too 😂

I really don’t need all that space. What I do like, is some presence on the road. The M3 even though is smaller, commands presence. Even d M340i from the front at least lol. The X6M and M60i look like they turn heads on the road.

As far as driving style, I’m 25 and I’ve owned bmws since I was 19, so definitely more aggressive. I did enjoy my M340i as a daily cos sometimes when I wanna just talk or driving on a date, in comfort, it’s so smooth (I got adaptive suspension to help with the ride quality) , and then when I’m in sports , I have everything configured to sport + (transmission, dampers, steering, engine ) and I never felt it was too stiff, I guess I’m used to stiff driving from my E90 days. Never driven an X4M though so idk how much stiffer the ride is

All good points above. I'd suggest test drive both the vehicles and you'll know the one you want.

Well, what can I say. I’m 20 years your senior and was actually considering the M3 touring (G81) as my perfect next car to replace my 7 series. To me it’s a big enough car, the M3. Big enough for a family, and it has enough boot space too. Maybe consider one of those?

The reason why I chose the X5 M60i instead of the M3 is that my wife complained about the loud noises from the exhaust when accelerating in the M3. I know I wouldn’t stand my wifey’s complaining about it (and I’m sure I wouldn’t learn to NOT accelerate the M3 hard - it’d defy the entire purpose of the car). So, for me, the M60i was the next best thing to an M3

Haven’t even looked in the direction of X3/X4M for a second. Could never see the point of these cars, and even less since the M3 touring exists

I think your approach is wrong. You comparing different cars by similar price. Driving dynamics, ride quality, interior space, quality of materials - all different. Price is the same (or close).

Wait a minute, did I read correctly that OP is living in Atlanta, prior car was stolen, and renting an apartment? If so, I think a garage is needed for a $90k+ car. Living in ATL I would EV it, as traffic is horrible—when you you be able to open it up? iX xDrive 50? Mx4 is dated. X6 M60 your looking at $110k, but going to store in apartment complex?

I know. Being a single guy, apartment complexes feel right for me. It’s a gated community, with covered resident parking but no garage. There is security and cameras but I had to have been targeted. They must have cloned my key fob signal somehow cos they just drove it off the lot.

As for traffic, I work from home so I mostly only move around at night, or d one offs when I have to make a drive to the airport or something during the day.

But ATL is like this, I’ve got Porsches and Lamborghinis on my parking deck, if you live in the city, complexes wouldn’t have garages. some people just don’t like houses which is probably the only way you’d get garages in Atl

Before I say the next sentence, a disclaimer: I know this is a wrong forum to ask this question. Though… have you considered an RS6 Avant? It’s roomy, much bigger than the M3, and has better performance than M60i

Money wise, if you keep options on a modest level, on the road price should land within +10% of the M60i range (at least in Europe it does)

An M3 touring which is not available here in the US would be an oustanding choice.
