Wait for penfed 60 days?
My car is at the port and should likely be available to delivery this week or next week. I missed the penfed rebate and misunderstood it (some recent threads clarified it). I need to make a decision on whether I should attempt to push out or re-do delivery to get this rebate of $3250. I placed my order in June.
I signed up for a penfed account on Sep 7 so it would be Nov 7 when I can generate a offer code. I regret not doing this earlier. There's also no guarantee it would be accepted seamlessly as there's a little dealer YMMV. Also annoying is that my employer has manufacturer rebates for audi, merc, vw, fiat, jeep etc but not for BMW. My deal - 4% off MSRP + $750 loyalty credit (and $1500 CA Clean Fuel rebate + federal rebate next year). I'm only financing so I can get the credit and will payoff the loan at the soonest. I'm pretty miffed I missed the 2021 order and the BMWFS rebate for financing went away ($2500), I was ready to pull the trigger but the model year ticked over that very week. Looking for input to sway me either way. I think I'd rather have the car sooner and sell my current car (throwing up minor issues) but the delta $2500 of missed savings stings. By re-do delivery do you mean give up this car and order a new one? |

That's a tough one...also risky as I believe BMW is entering a time where order times are going to be extended even longer than they are now. Also keep in mind that if your new delivery pushes into next year, you'll have to wait until 2023 to capitalize on the federal rebate.

I also want to balance with our current car which has maintenance coming up and its value has dropped too. If the value continues to drop then it may be a wash, or if I have to spend some $ to fix something urgently. I was just trying to find a way out of my regret for not signing up for an account 60 days ago. |

I reccomend getting your vehicle now and forgoing the PenFed incentive. It seems like there are too many uncertainties to say that waiting will actually provide value.

It's hard to swallow missing out on the rebate, but I agree with everyone else. Too many uncertainties in the upcoming future. If you ordered exactly what you want and it's finally here, I would take it.

Did you put down any deposit on the order? I assume you would lose it since there's nothing wrong with the vehicle. So refusing delivery and ordering another with PenFed would really net you only $2250 on a $1k lost deposit.
Are you sure you'll get 4% off again? I had a few dealerships eager to sell their allocation in June, but today... the one I went with said their wait time for a 45e was 19 weeks. I'm sure there are available allocations somewhere, but that particular dealer may only be selling their allocation at MSRP. Before deciding to refuse delivery I would investigate when you'd get your new order and at what price, to get an accurate # on how much waiting for PenFed will benefit you. I think there's also some risk of more options being removed from builds, like how the B&W audio was now removed from all the BMWs. Quote:

Hello! Looking for clarity on Fed rebate for '22 purchases. First - have they announced that the same rebate will be available yet? Second - I assume you mean that you'll enjoy the benefit of the 22 purchase/rebate in 2023 because that's when the tax return for 2022 will be filed - i.e. NOT that the rebate will apply to tax year 2023? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

The fed rebate is not yet updated on the IRS site but there's no reason 2022 X5 will not show up. Other BMW 2022 MY vehicles are there (although I don't know when those started 2022MY delivery or when they showed up on IRS). https://www.irs.gov/businesses/irc-3...vehicle-credit |

Got $6k off MSRP in Northern VA on a fully loaded x5e p/w 43. Sticker was $80,300,- don't remember if this included the "delivery" fee or not, so that's %7.4 or %7.5.
