On my old i3, if I was having problems with the cellular, I'd sometimes pull the fuse on the module...that forced it to reset and run its initialization. That usually fixed that portion. I have no idea what fuse that module is on in the X5, and a passive forced reset would be my first choice as literally power cycling things on a system that is expected to constantly have power applied, probably isn't great for its reliability.

One thing I eventually did discover, is that I tended to drive a bit more towards the left-hand side of my lane...the vehicle tries to center you, and if you're passing someone on a multi-lane road, it was a little spooky until I realized, it was doing a better job of centering me in my lane than I was...Once that realization took hold, I was not fighting the steering at all anymore. So far, and it's only happened once, it steered me off-center and noted that the vehicle to my right was crowding me around a curve. In that case, I think it actually had my left-hand wheels either on or over the lane marker, where normally, it would have been shaking the steering wheel to tell me I was there...this was all done by the vehicle by itself without my intervention.
The system has a learning curve, and, as I found, was actually doing what it should have. |

The updates are indicated by the year/month/version. So, yes. Now, there may or may not be a minor update different from your .22, but from what I've seen, people don't get those minor changes (and they MIGHT be relative to the equipment on board), so you're unlikely to get a minor tweak to your 07/2021 version unless you went in for service and had a specific complaint that that update might fix.

Thanks. I will settle with the current version. Out of curiosity, is the update only available through OTA or at the dealerships, nowhere else? |

If you obtain the factory software, and keep the files up to date, you can do it yourself. That takes some learning and risk if you're not somewhat skilled.

as mentioned earlier, folks can get an 'early' update if their vehicle happens to go in for service and BMW authorizes a software update as a possible remedy to the service issue. |

Didn't know this rolls out region by region. Never excited about these updates but decided to try out because of claimed improved lane assist. I thought it was improved on the way to work. On the way home when I was near a high median to enter freeway, it scared the *** out of me. Could have hit the median easily if my mind was off or on the phone check bimmerpost. No more steering intervention. I noticed it also reset some codes but not all.

so you didn't notice a 'safer' improvement in the steering intervention algorithm? that sucks cuz that's the main feature i was looking fwd to. |

The traffic light warning is there, but I’m not in the UK, and I had it with the prev version as well. |

(like BobsM3Coupe said, he's still on 11/2020 and yet to get the "ready to install" notification for 03/2021 OTA from BMW.) Last edited by nZtiZia; 10-31-2021 at 08:41 PM.. |

The March update wasn't sent to me until way after the next one was available at the dealerships during a maintenance update for a specific problem before mine updated...and, it skipped last November's update entirely. I was told that, depending on the specific configuration, there may not be something in one of the periodic updates for every vehicle, and the vehicle may not receive it. Plus, it's not like a WIN or iOS update, where most of the world gets it at nearly the same time...it gets pushed to vehicles, and it's not obvious what priority scheme is used, but BMW has said, it is phased by market, and Germany would get it first. There's no way to 'pull' it manually. You either get it OTA, or have the software applied by a dealer or someone that has the files.

After the update it reset ASS and video in motion. So I coded them back in. At some point in the process, I got a message saying something like "Rear cross traffic alert malfunctioning. Please see dealership." Anyone got this message? My RCTA came up maybe once or twice since day 1. So I wonder if RCTA actually malfunctions or it's what I did with the coding.
