Oh, okay. Thanks. That's consistent with BMW's estimated date of completion, which is November 1 (next week). It entered production last week, so it miiiight have just made the cutoff to still have the touchscreen. Even though I do have the "Deletion of Backup Assistant" line item.

I'm not sure if I got lucky or got through the cut off dates for this
My car build week was either 10/4 or 10/11 It arrived at the dealership 10/18 I picked it up on 10/22 It has touch screen and back up assistant can confirm. It also has the ambinet lighting in the back seats as some was discussing it was missing. |

I’m in a similar boat, was informed my X7 build (week 43) would lack a touchscreen. Anyone understand what the actual component shortage is? Is it the display itself and if so, I have to believe this could be corrected retroactively. Screens break and people replace them.

While you are looking into it, can you check and see if the touch screen is being deleted from vehicles where the VIN has already been assigned? Generally once that stage occurs the build doesn't change. I guess given we are in unusual times anything can happen. Thanks.

Looking at our orders in production, it seems to have started sometime during production week 43 and affects through week 45 right now

Ok thanks. Just to make sure I'm reading that correctly, were they removed in conjunction with the status changing to 150 or were they in 150 for a period of time and had them removed?

I'm not sure I can determine that precisely. I'd guess that once it flipped to 150, any deletions occurred in conjunction with that.

Is there a way to check within the features on my build in mygarage whether the touchscreen was removed? I’m week 44 as well - and see the “deletion of backup assistant” as well.

i'm not quite following. How is "Deletion of backup assist" related to deletion of touchscreen?
was touchscreen standard since launch?

I just went on BMW USA website and looked up standard features. Here's a screen shot showing Touch Screen is included under Instrumentation and Controls.

Also isn't this flawed proxy? Wasn't backup assist only part of Parking Assistance package, so you would have to have ordered that package and look for the deletion line. I ordered Parking Assistance btw and do not have "deletion" line. My car is done btw. Week 43: 10/11 = Production Begins 10/22 = Entering Assembly Line 10/23 = awaiting carrier assignment

just a guess here, product brochure says Live Professional is digital gauge AND touchscreen central display.
If anyone can try to decode their VINs who know or suspect their touchscreen was deleted, this line may indicate that touchscreen is still there? S6U3 BMW Live Operating Area Professional

Whoa - you're reading into this. No one said they were connected. They just happened around same week and came up same day.

This is my first ordered BMW, and losing both backup assist and touch screen is a pretty big blow for me. When I read up on all the features that came with the new X5, literally the two features I was most excited about were these two. Hope is fading that I was not effected, but I am definitely a confirmed week 43.

Touchscreen, that’s a different thing. That might be a dealbreaker for me; still waiting to hear from my SA. Like, it’s got that big gorgeous screen right there, angled right at the driver. 12.3 inches of screen with big huge icons to tap…. and I won’t be able to do it. I mean, I’m gonna try all the damn time and every time it doesn’t work, I’m gonna get a little salty. It’s just gonna suck every time that happens, if it does. It’ll feel so bad that it’s even a model year 2022 fully spec’d 95k car and it doesn’t have a freaking touchscreen. The worst bit is that the grass isn’t greener elsewhere - everyone has supply issues. It’s likely just a shit sandwich I gotta eat and then thank the chef after. That’s what sucks. |

These parts shortages are very real and all rules seem to be off for what any marketing says.
There was even several 5 series that got delivered to the dealer with no infotainment. It was literally just wires sticking out of the car. Just wires! Never seen anything like it. They were on stop sale and I guess BMW said they have to wait until the parts arrive and service to install them. I think BMW is doing the best they can to continue moving cars off the line and getting them to those who need them. It's really the dealers that need to stay on top of this and inform buyers that their orders may not come with that feature. I suppose it may not have hit the website or marketing materials because it is such a short production issue. I do think it's going to be a deal breaker for many of you. I'm curious to know how many out there do use the touchscreen feature of idrive. My mother (70) did on her new G20. That's because it was much easier to teach her that than all the functions using the Knob. |
