I texted my salesperson to ask about this a little while ago and just received this reply:

Man, you are good. I didn’t even open the bulletin they sent out this morning yet. This is news to us as well. This build sheet reflects what your car will have.

So yes, my build has lost the touchscreen. No deadline to make a decision, so I’m going to take my time and think about it. I can’t decide if this is going to irk me for a while and then fade away, or if it’s going to be like an itch I can never scratch. What’s weighing on my mind is that I was planning on keeping the car for five to seven years, and I worry that I’d always feel like I bought at exactly the wrong time.

I've never used backup assistant. I show my neighbor how to use it about 1.5yrs ago on his G05 but never since then. Based on everyone's talk, it's safe to say it can only be accessed with touch and not the iDrive controller?

X7 forum has, I didn't know as we didn't have any X7s in production for late October/November builds.

Just checked with my SA, it looks like I'm getting hit by the touchscreen deletion. He did ask if it would be an issue with taking delivery, and I gave a noncommittal to that. I don't know how I feel about an 80k SUV without a touch screen, even if I can control everything with the idrive wheel.

This is brutal. I took a half day at work to go to the dealership to sign papers to start the build process and I see this news. This is a deal-breaker for me. I also saw the trailer hitch is no longer an option (on bmw usa website) as of the last ~5-7 days.

This is the same logic I have. A 75-80k SUV without Touchscreen (that vehicles up until this point have ) is really off-putting.

I have a week 49 order that still shows the tow hitch and no deletion of touchscreen or backup assistant. This could be a temporary change not affecting you if you have a later build date. Of course a later build date can lose other options as well with this general parts shortage...

tbh I'll probably still take delivery. I sold my truck for a high offer and now I'm without a vehicle if my wife is at work, so I may just take it on the chin and lose the touch screen. if I lose anything other than that (+backup assistant) I'll probably change my mind and just find something somewhere else if I have to.

Mine showed on my build sheet as nothing deleted. Unfortunately it was updated as soon as it came out of the line. The backup assistant I can deal with. Touch screen is another story.

If it was in the ordering system before the deletion, it will be included. You currently cannot add the tow hitch to an order. If you delete it, it's gone forever.

You say that, but my August order had B&W and massaging seats, they were both just removed when the status changed to scheduled for production.

Hit or miss, but in my experience with B&W, if it was on the order before the cutoff, it stayed. We have several X5 Ms and X7 M50is inbound with B&W that was on the order before it was removed (not to mention some M8s)

I wonder, is the touch screen something that can be retrofitted later, once the stock is better?

If so, I might try to get my dealer to agree to a free retrofit later rather than try to bully them to take more off the msrp than the $500.

You can activate it with the controller, it's just slower. You would click right, dial down, and then click on the option.

On a touchscreen you just tap it.

In my case it's an X5 M50i. Maybe that's why I got the short straw.

My vehicle is in production- has been since last Tuesday. My garage sadly shows, back up assist deletion.

How do I determine if I’m impacted by the touchscreen drama?

This is a real blow…first no speaker upgrades, then this that and the other. Meanwhile, you get go get a Kia with a touchscreen…I’ve seen the LA port - but still insane.

According to BMW, the touchscreen deletion and back up assistant are linked. Can't have one without the other.

Reach out to your client advisor and ask them to check.

Just registered to this site after reading all the drama. Been a while since I was in the world of BMW, not sure I can say it's nice to be back

Ordered an almost fully loaded 45e on Tuesday, only to read this post on Wednesday. I already knew about the fog lights, tow hitch, stereo, etc- but the touchscreen is going to be a dealbreaker.

My SA yesterday said he spoke to a 'rep' who said mine will still include the touchscreen, but I just don't see how that can be true. My order is in 111 status.

Having put a deposit down to order this, I'm wondering exactly how I can back out if there is no touchscreen and how I can determine if it will/will not be included? Also, where in the garage does it show the deletion of back up assist, I don't see it anywhere?

This really sucks.
