Worth purchasing?

Was waiting for a Tesla Model Y performance for the wife but but thinking of bailing out for an X5 i40 M sport. They have a gorgeous white on with blacked out package and I’ll get 2k in rebates off the $69.6k msrp. This seem alright? Seems like the x5 are holding their value pretty well as the used ones don’t make sense to buy so close to new prices.

Not sure what makes up the $2k in rebates, perhaps it is just a dealer discount. Many dealers are still selling them at MSRP although we are starting to see more doing some discounts. Can always try to get some more off but if you like it go for it.

Apple to orange comparison beside the price range. If you are looking for that 0-60 acceleration, then 40i will disappoint. Y will also have lower cost of operation. But Y is a smaller, less capable in advert weather condition mainly due to low clearance, less comfort, luxurious and refinement. What are you after for this new car purcahse?

I know the Tesla is a completely different car. Just asking if at the price I’m getting the x5 is it a good deal or not.

Tesla model y is about 70k now for the long range. It's not a 50k car anymore so price of the x5 might actually be cheaper to buy (not operate).

Edit:
67,440 for the long range in white or silver including destination.
Add 1-2k for different colors

These days, almost all dealers are selling at MSRP, so yes, that seems fair. Now, if you have the patience to order a car, you might do a bit better, but then you're waiting... but also, you're getting exactly what you want, assuming that the white one doesn't check all the boxes.

I concur, it makes little sense these days to buy a used car with prices so high.

i'm in the same boat as you with a MYLR on order but after comparing the pro's and con's, im moving forward with a X5 45E instead of the MY.

If the 2K is purely a dealer discount and not some rebate from bmw that you qualify for, then it’s not an awful deal. If your local market is not very competitive and you are not able to expand your radius this may be close to the best you can get. I would still try to get a bit more dealer discount. Last week, I tried to help another forum member and was able to negotiate invoice pricing on a fairly loaded m sport. Just note that the X5 may not be the best option if you care about residual value.

Unfortunately the rebates are all things I qualify for. Dealer won’t discount it but 2k is still $$ off of msrp. I would agree residuals on this car aren’t great.

We would be interested in the details of those rebates. Do you qualify for military? That could be the $2k but you will need to use outside financing.

Between me and this forum, I found out a way to qualify for military without being in the military. And my outside financing is 3.79%, better than bmwfs

That used to be very easy when a PenFed membership was one of the ways to qualify. With that gone it really isn't possible to do anymore, you need to fit into one of the categories. As an aside, you don't need to currently be in the military to get the domestic military discount.

ELIGIBLE PARTICIPANTS:

• Active Duty
• National Guard
• Reserves
• Veterans
• Military Retirees
• Military Spouses
• Surviving Spouses
• Immediate Military Family Members
• All USAA and NavyFed members with at least 60 days of membership
• One incentive per member per year
• All customers must present their unique Customer ID and Offer code at time of retail!

No one ever said Y is a 50K car. It is actually exactly at the price range of X5. If you get 45e, it will be cheaper with the fed tax incentive. Keep in mind, 67K Y is without enhanced auto pilot, which is compatible to BMW DAP. EAP used to be included in Y base a few weeks ago, Tesla increase the Y base by 3K, and remove EAP as standard, made it a 6K option now. So effectively, a Y with EAP is 9K more than the same Y 1 month ago. The big question is, is EAP transferrable to the next owner. We know FSD is NOT a transferrable option. So if they make EAP not transferrable, then the value of the car drop 6K once registered

Earlier this month, I was able to get 6% off including a $1K OL code rebate on an in-stock xDrive40i that had the options I wanted (M Sport, DAP, Premium, Parking) and my preferred color combo.

It did take some time emailing the dealer back and forth and finally having to negotiate the deal in-person, as well as being required to use BMW FS at 3.99% (I plan on refinancing it through my local credit union for 2.74% in a couple months). There were zero add-ons like nitrogen, PPF, or window tint either.

Coincidentally, the X5 replaced my '21 MYP that I drove for 7K miles. I purchased it for $62K before tax and sold it for $71K thanks to the continually increasing price, long waits, and high demand.

I know you're aware they're two totally different cars, but I wanted to share some insights after having them back-to-back. There's no surprise about the typical quality issues everyone knows about, the overpromised range, frustrating UI, or lack of features like a surround view cam. Don't get me started on phantom braking with Autopilot either.

The thing that bothered me the most was how choppy and brittle the ride was. Yes, a lot of the NVH is due to the 21" tires and boat anchor wheels. I switched from the awful summer P-Zeros to all-season Michelin PS4 which helped slightly, but the car crashed and boomed over bumps and transmitted vibrations throughout the cabin. Compared to the Model 3, I feel like Tesla engineers either cut corners on the damping and/or failed to insulate the cabin well enough. The large glass roof certainly doesn't help either.

The ride quality (or lack thereof) was tiresome given its primary use as a family hauler. For short trips it was bearable, but anything longer than an hour was brutal. Moving to the ICE X5 was worth losing the instant torque and clever packaging in favor of driving a luxury product where my family and I feel refreshed after a long drive. Sure I'll miss having an EV (the Tesla was my fifth EV or PHEV), but there will be so many compelling options in just a matter of time, where you won't need to sacrifice the normal things you'd expect from a ~$70K car.

Model Y is built like Walmart furniture. I am not going pure electric until all the big brands have built out a reliable charging network. So far it's only Tesla that will give you a reasonable experience on a long trip. Telsa interior quality is just too crappy. Shop around. You can get a base x5 at near invoice, 2023 are coming. Any dealer with 20 plus x5s 2022 on the lot will work with you. Unless your just in an area where they have no competition.
