I've had the update for about a month now (Canada) and I don't really see any improvement. Still issues, some major.

- Motion Control doesn't work reliably. Sometimes out of the blue it would mute/unmute the audio while my hand is on the steering wheel.

- Idrive suddenly switches from native spotify to android auto spotify. Or it cuts out and comes back at a louder volume.

- Rear view camera stays locked on when reversing and then shifting into park. You have to drive forward to unlock it.

And for the real kicker, my IDrive is messed up now and I am stuck in guest. All settings such as seat and button settings are suddenly wiped out. I tried both of my keys, no change. When I select switch profile, nothing happens.

I'm in US and just received notification of this update for my 2021 X5 i40. I have not yet downloaded it. Is it high probability that it will wipe out all my coding I have had done and have done with Bimmer code? I have my phone app set NOT to automatic download but I hope it will not automatically download and install when i start my car to go home

Any ECU that is touched will likely lose the coding. It won't install automatically, you have to start it.

The vehicle won't do the update until you ask it from what I've seen.

I haven’t but called bmw and they said I should have and to get it booked in with dealer under warranty to update software.

So does that mean that if you flash tune DME, that will also need to be reloaded After the update?

I have a trip this week end and will not install update until later on this month. I have coded things to exactly how i like them and do not want to go through recoding until I have proper time. Too much going on at this time of year. I read through all release notes and there is nothing there that can't wait

Incorrect. Mine updated automatically and I lost remote start climate control rules. No heated seat or steering wheel. Took it to the dealer. They upgraded to the newest software and still no luck. Worked perfectly fine before the update. Will be going back to the dealer soon.

i've updated twice in a year, and i always had to initiate it through iDrive in the General settings. your car updating "automatically" screams problem. prior to updating, there's a checklist with about 7 items that the system checks off as you're prompted through iDrive in addition to at least a couple times it asks you to confirm you want to update now versus later.

Very unlikely that is what happened. Are you sure you are not referring to an Apps and Services update which happens automatically?

Sorry, I can't give you a definitive answer on that. I have read that the DME is not updated during an iDrive update but do not know if that is accurate or not.

Edit: Now that I think about it I would say the above is untrue. The Auto Start/Stop coding is in the DME and that needs to be redone after an update. Hopefully someone can chime in regarding the tune.

or Data Privacy settings. there have been a couple updates in a couple months. i just got a notification yesterday.

At least in the past, the Data Privacy Settings request is pushed out with the Apps and Services update.

the one i got in Oct was a simple Data Privacy update. the one i got in Nov included the new News app, but both times the notification simply stated "privacy settings were updated."
