2022 X5 in Individual Lime Rock Grey with mods

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I took delivery about a month ago on a 2022 X5 xdrive40i Msport in Individual Lime Rock Grey. It took a bit for me to get to this post because it was at a detailer for a couple weeks getting some paint protection done and a few cosmetic mods I'll list below.

It's loaded with basically every option except rear heated seats, canberra vernasca leather instead of merino and the wheels are 20" 740M rather than the 22" upgrade.

The Lime Rock Grey paint is pretty wild as it changes pretty dramatically in different lighting conditions. Having never seen the color in person before ordering, it's a bit darker than I thought but brightens up quite a bit in sunlight. I'll add some photos when I get a chance to take some with the sunlight facing the front. For some reason the folks who took the photos below took them with the sunlight shining on the rear.

Work done since delivery:
- Full front Xpel PPF
- Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light on full body, wheels, calipers
- 35% ceramic Xpel tint on front two windows
- 740M wheels powder coated gloss black
- Black badges from IND
- Front reflectors painted LRG by IND
- Front lip spoiler from Larte, painted LRG to match body color. Local shop matched it pretty well.
- Rear M roof spoiler painted LRG

Looks great, especially the black 740s. Totally changes the look of those wheels.

LOVE that color. Great choice. Reminds me of the matte gray that was on the Toyota TRD Pro 4Runners a couple years ago. Awesome.

Here are some photos at delivery prior to the cosmetic mods for comparison as well as a before and after in the driveway.

Wow looks amazing! Paint looks amazing on the x5! Congratulations! The first 3 pictures show the color extremely well! How long did this take from build to delivery?

Looks great congrats on the new ride. Not too many 40i's with individual paint. Any particular reason you opted for the 20's instead of the 21's or 22's? Great idea to powdercoat the 20's really helps especially w LRG. Are the roads bad where you live? Enjoy the new ride.

Did you just replace the X5 badge and remove the 40e one?

Ordered on 7/18, built on 10/11, at dealership on 10/20. Order went in as a week 31 build while awaiting for the individual paint to be actually processed and when that happened a few days after ordering it went from build week 31 to 41.

A few reasons. First I was trying to convince myself I was being somewhat responsible as long as I didn't do every single upgrade. Half kidding. Mostly because at the time I thought it made most sense to just run A/S RFTs all year and figured once I paint the wheels black they wouldn't look as different from the 22s anyway versus when they're silver. Also felt like if i went with 22s I'd wanna buy a winter set of 20s anyway so decided if I didn't love the 20" A/S RFTs then I'd just turn these into a winter set and get 22s later. Fast forward to now and that's exactly what I did. I sold the RFTs after driving them and realizing quickly I wasn't a fan of the harsh ride and put on Michelin Alpin 5s. So it's a winter set and now I will be shopping for a set of 22s for after winter. That said, while roads aren't too bad here in MD I drive to NJ and NYC often and I'm a bit nervous to switch to 22s and have a catestrophic event up there in a pothole. So I'm leaning toward a set of 22s but second guessing it all.

Nice. Seems like BMW should include black badges as part of the extended Shadowline option....that bit of chrome on otherwise blacked out vehicle is annoying.

Too bad IND doesn't make a 45e badge. I have a Shadowline MSport ordered...will likely just remove it and only replace the X5 badge.

Completely agree. Also wish the laser headlights were blacked out like the regular headlights. I considered leaving the xdrive badge off just because I'm not a fan of the black badge being all one color and therefore the "drive" lettering being nearly invisible. Kinda odd that it's just a black box if you don't look closely.

Did you get a spare? The 22s are non-runflat and you can put all-seasons on them.

Yes luckily I added the $150 spare to my build so I was covered. Really wish salesmen recommended this to people but thanks to reading this forum prior to the build I knew to add it.

Hmm. With an M in NYC who has no complaints about the ride I would say don't worry about the ride on 22s (although I share your fear about potholes) but while you found the ride on 20s with RFTs harsh I described the same setup on our '19 as Lexus-like so not sure you should consider my opinion! Guessing you're fairly close with dealer/salesman - have you considered asking them if they are likely to get an X5 with 22s in the spring and, if so, could you try the ride out with that one?

As an alternative, I think a set of 21" 741Ms in black would look incredible.

Who did the powdercoat on the wheels? Considering it for the 45e I have on order.

Alloy Wheel Repair Specialists in Essex, MD. They did an awesome job. Looks like smaller version of factory 742M.
