So basically save your money And not bother with sports exhaust for the 40i specifically!

X4 - have just replied to you on another thread. Unfortunately, the is exactly right. I wonder if there is a way of tweaking the "M Sport Exhaust" so that it actually sounds decent, without making it loud on the motorway?

The 40i M-Sport exhaust is unusually quiet compared to what BMW did with the 50i. I know a V8TT has a lot more sound to work with but considering what BMW did with X3 M40, they could have gotten more raspy from the 40i MSport. I really am disappointed with the new full blown X3M exhaust. It sounds thin lacking any bass or low end.

8 minute mark

My M40i sounded way better than the X3M per that video. I hope it sounds better in person

Any further insights on the 40i M Sport exhaust? I’m building a car right now and am contemplating it.

For those that notice a difference in sound between comfort and sport - do you have the windows open or have you stood outside to hear the difference?

Hello, my first post here)
I want to retrofit my regular xDrive50i with m-sport exhaust. So my question is what needs to be upgraded? Only the muffler or also other things?

If you look under Vendor section. Our g05 x5 actually has an M performance exhaust. I think it only fits the m sport trim, correct me if im wrong.

Personally im getting that. Im just waiting on the release of the m performance exhaust tips trim so i can do the swap one time

If you mean this thread then from what I understand it is for 40i, not for 50i.

So my question stays - what's the difference between regular exhaust and M sport exhaust (which is part of "ZMP M Sport Package") parts wise? is it just muffler?

Looking on realoem, at the bottom of this page, it looks like muffler is indeed different. The M Sport exhaust seems to have two inlet pipes, as opposed to a single pipe for the standard exhaust.

Perhaps "Port Installed"?

If you're still building your G05 prior to ordering, maybe the dealer can specify a "port install" on the exhaust. I would think since the Spartanburg factory builds both the domestic and export X5 at the same place, it would be feasible. And being port installed it should result in a cost reduction since you don't have to order the M Sport Exhaust as an after thought and paying dealer labor to install it after the car arrives. Maybe?

I have an X6 40i with M Sport exhaust. It doesn't pop or bang, but is MUCH louder than my previous G30 540i, like MUCH louder. The car is brand new so I expect it will get louder too after a while like my G30 did.

So when you guys say the M Sport exhaust is quiet, are you referring to lack of pops/bangs compared to a X3M40i, or are you referring directly to the volume of sound under load?

I can't imagine what I'm hearing under load being described as 'quiet' under any circumstances, but I have never had a car with any kind of performance exhaust before either so I'm not sure what the expectations are.

We in the States get the single piped rear muffler unlike the dual piped muffler the European market gets. So yes, I would think it would sound quieter. I suspect there is a difference in muffler design. But not having an European version of the X5 40i M Sport side by side with a US version, I can't quantify the difference. I'm willing, though, to make the investment if the "M Performance Exhaust" is an option on a new order or retrofittable at the dealer level.

Thanks for the suggestion. In the end I managed to get the MSport exhaust added to my order so it's factory built. Car is currently on a boat somewhere between the US and Australia but when it does arrive, I'll try and get some side by side videos with my friends car.

Given the M Sport has dual inlets, I'm really wondering how different it is to the M Performance. They look practically the same on realoem!

I'm scratching my head a little here. Maybe its because I came from an M3, have acoustic glass, and still in break in period so barely touched pedal, but my M50i sounds rather quiet!

I see that your car has M sport package. However it seems that depending on region that package may or may not have M sport exhaust included. So could you please check your purchase agreement options list if it does have "S01MA - M SPORTS EXHAUST SYSTEM" or "S1MAA" option in it? Thank you in advance

I have an M50d in the UK which comes as standard with the sports exhaust. I can confirm that it does make a difference. Sounds powerful all the time but when the car is in sport, it has a lot more bass and a rumble to it. Almost sounds like a V8 rumble. Not sure exactly what changes in the exhaust, maybe a flap opens or maybe more trickery like an external speaker al la Audi.

Sounds great inside the car but that's all fake. I still like it.

Question please: How did your dealer add it on to your order? Was there an "option or accessory code"? Thanks

Hi guys, I am new here and You guess I have a questions.
I have X5 30D M package 2019 but no M exhaust. I didnt want to wait and I took stock car. For test I was driving X5 M50D.
Now, the question is what are best and smartest options to get kind of sport sound out of this car, especially to hear sound break out when shifting gears(doesnt need to be sound like X5 M50D).
Thx in advance.

hi Kripad, did you buy the 30d or the 50d? I have a 2020 M50d New Zealand model which should be similar to the Australian 50d that we just bought in May and I am not sure about it. The sound is nice but there's a noise at around 1.700/2.000 RPM at low speed under a little bit of load around 30/45 kph, when you re-accelerate that really bothers me. I went back to the dealer in Auckland (now have been back 3 times because it's getting worse) and they initially thought it was not a good noise but then we tested the 3 other M50d they had and they were all doing the same noise (what my kids called Darth Vader noise...). So they think it's a charachteristic Apparently it's linked to the butterfly flap in the exhaust that controls maybe the NOx emissions...
it's just not a nice tin sound in what is otherwise a great machine. what did you get in the end?
