I have had an exact tear on my Maserati rear wheel for months. Not to worry. I simply used rubber cement. This is an issue with these low profile performance tires, but they do look good. I’m still going to get the 22 inch wheels on our X5 anyway.

Hm. Not a tire expert at all, but an engineer here, so ... that little bit of laminated rubber is just cosmetic then and has no functional attachment to the functional bead section?

Thanks all,
You will be able to get a good discount on a new tyre if you ring Conti or Pirelli. I got 50% off a tyre when I tore a small patch off the side wall like this - just mention to them you want to use the road hazard warranty. Pirelli will give you a new tyre and Conti will give a healthy discount.

I have Conti so for $200 (CAD) it was not worth worrying about a tyre failure when I give it a thrashing.

Looks to me like it's the rim guard that got damaged. So it served it's purpose. You're good to go.
