How does this compare to the OEM version?

For comparison's purposes.

Here my old F15 Weather Tech liner (this was the liner for 3rd seating)
vs. G05 mat

The F15 mat fits without any issue, it's a little shorter on the sides.
The G05 mat now has those wings for the storage areas

Based on those comparison photos....doesn't look like the cargo space of the G05 is any smaller than the F15!!👊🏼

BMW Oem cargo liner look better. As you can see weather tech look when it was brand new but after 1 year it no longer fit good or look good due the edge no longer straight.

I’ve had the F15 liner for 4.5 years and put it through the wringer with concrete bags and spills galore without any issues. The edges rolling are more a factor of me rolling it up and storing it in the garage. Once you put it back in the trunk it will mold back to shape.

You can compare your old and new one you can see the edge of the old curve in. I have 2 set over 6 years old which I start to dislike this brand. Also I have all season floor liner from them which the edge is higher and they don’t stay up straight.

I opened up my newest Roundel magazine and saw the cocomats ad with their "stripes" waterproof mats and decided that since everything about this G05 is different and more out of "my box", than usual, I'd go with a coral red stripe mat for the cargo area (keeping the black carpet mats in the front though) .

https://www.cocomats.com/stripe-mats/

It's either going to be great or it's going to be absolutely hideous

I guess I'll find out in 2-3 weeks.

BMW mat covers the hooks. How do people tie down stuff in trunk. It is flying all over the place. Cargo net anyone? it has to be routed from under the mat?

I would recommend WeatherTech. I recently purchased a cargo liner and a full set of interior liners for my wife's X3 M40i...great quality and the fitment was perfect.

I'm planning to do the same for my X5 40i when it arrives.

You can slice 2 slits in the WT mat just behind the seats to get to those 2 hooks to attach your net . It looks like it will still keep spills from the main area out of the area by those slits.

I just purchased the cargo mat from Weather Tech- It looks beautiful and fits like a glove. (I did purchase the BMW floor mats and I do love them).

I went with the Weather Tech cargo mat because I didn't like the BMW cargo mat I purchased for my 2016 X5- I didn't like the way it looked or the way it fit.

Wow. The looks of that weather tech cargo mat is way better than the BMW one I bought IMO.

They have their advamtages, I didn't go weathertech this time because they look cheap but if the BMW one sucks I might go that route.

Mt dealer gave me free weather mats so I bought the OEM cargo mat - if anyone wants pics I'd be happy to take them. Honestly, it looks great/ very professional and I'm happy with the purchase. Got it online shipped overnight for about $200 from a BMW dealer.

I also got free BMW liners for first and 2nd row w purchase, but they didn't have the cargo mat. I had saved my weathertech cargo from the F15 I just turned in. It fits great in the cargo space of the G05.

The issue I have with the G05 Weathertech is the “ears” make access to the lower storage space a chore. Can you even open it?

Looking at your photos I can see what appears to be the two front tie-down points exposed. Does the Wheathertech mat go around these, as with the two rear points, such that the mat's lip goes around them (so as to preserve the continuity of the drip retaining lip)?

A nice feature of the Weathertech mat for the F15 was its areas for the tie-down points with a drip barrier, allowing one to cut out those areas (in the previous photo posted of an F15 WT mat they are not cut out) while maintaining the integrity of the drip barrier.

The Weather Tech doesn't hamper or restrict access to the bottom storage area- you just lift it up and re-set it when you're done.

The Weather Tech does not go around or cover the front tie down rings.

Fits great looks great.
