Care to share the dealer. I'll be placing a M50i order soon and have not seen anything close to that based on surface convos with CA. I'm also in GA.

Hey guys, I just ordered an X5 for my wife yesterday and went into production today. Is the rebate after I actually take ownership of the car or does it need to be done beforehand?

You need to join CCA before you take delivery and then submit your rebate paperwork to CCA after you take delivery.

You can't apply until after you purchase it. You need the receipt the dealer gives you that has the VIN and price on it.

I think you can join within 30 days of purchase. It used to be you had to join before the purchase date. Check the web site for detail. But I would join now that way you are covered for sure.

BMWCCA checks your submission and then sends it to BMWNA. BMWNA sends you the check.

I submitted a rebate request last week. My understanding is that it takes about 4 or 5 weeks after you submit before you get the check.

excellent, thanks fellas

my only other question would be, if the membership is under me, but the car is in my wife's name, does that matter? should I add her as a family member as well?

The rebate is per household. You can add her or probably should as an associate member for $30 for 3 years to ensure getting the rebate since the vehicle contract is under her name.

Here are some of the T&C's
https://www.bmwcca.org/vehicle_rebate

Vehicles must be purchased/leased via an authorized U.S. BMW center, sales documents and vehicle title must be in eligible member's name.

The BMW CCA/CCCA allowance is non-transferable and is offered to eligible members and associate members only.

If an eligible member co-signs for a vehicle with a non-member, both must reside in the same household and all documents must contain the member's name and signature. However, only one submission will be honored.

Through this program, eligible participants may redeem one reward per calendar year (1/1 through 12/31) per member. *Note- Reward not redeemable under both memberships.

I posted this in the other thread. Sorry for the repeat...

Gosh darn it. I don't know how some of you are getting close to 9% off MSRP dealer discount for 2020 models. What's your secret?

My dealer won't budge past 5.3% off MSRP (MSRP = 71,820 which includes dest fee). I offered as low as 7% off MSRP and he would not take that. No mfr incentives/rebates. He knows we're ready to put down a deposit for an custom order.

How much of that discount is from incentives? I'm assuming the 12% off you're getting is inclusive of incentives.

I'm not sure if there were any incentives, I think not. I don't have loyalty or anything, but have bought the cca 5yr membership today. Here's a break down of the sales order.

Fixed monthly rate - $713 (inclusive of 8.875% tax).
Bank acquisition fee - $925.
Tax on acquisition & doc fee - $82.09.
Cash down payment - $2060.08
Tax on cap cost reduction - $182.83
Rebates - blank
M.V. fees - $270.
Doc fee - $75.
Nys inspection - $20.
Subtotal - $4328.

Does the above sound about right? Any comments on the deal I got?

If you truly got nearly 12% off as pure discount (meaning pre any rebates/incentives), then that is one of the best deals I've seen on a 2020 build.

2 things:
1) The only thing I would caution you on is the $2k downpayment. Putting money down on a lease is usually not a good idea. If your car is ever totaled, you've effectively lost the downpayment. Instead, I would put money towards refundable security deposits to reduce the money factor.

2) I could be wrong, but it looks like they're marking up the money factor. Base money factor should be 0.00145, it looks like they might be using something like 0.00165, so I would confirm that with them.

Can you share the area from where you got this deal from? or even the dealership. I am struggling here where they are not even matching invoice for the outgoing 2019 model..

My CA did say the MF is 0.00145 and 58% residual via email. This is my 2nd lease, and each time I learn about these things but quickly forgot how they work. I thought marking up the MF is somewhat illegal?

I am supposed to sign this deal on Tuesday, if everything goes smoothly then I will ask my CA if I can share his contact. What are you looking for anyway?

If that's the MF and residual they're using then everything looks good.

Dealers can mark up the MF as they please, in fact if you get a quote from a new dealer you've never worked with in the past and never mention your credit rating, a lot of them will mark up the MF by default unless you tell them otherwise.

Putting money down on a lease is no different than putting a down payment on a loan. Should the vehicle get totaled, the lessor is paid and should there be any "extra" it will go to the lessee. That said, in some circumstances it may make financial sense to put money down on a lease but generally it does not.

Not illegal. Dealership markups on the MF is a way for them to squeeze more $ out of you unless the customer’s credit score is too low for the best MF rate.

I agree with the other poster and put your $ down towards MSDs, which are refundable to you & will lower your MF below the base rate.

From a pure numbers standpoint (MSRP vs selling price), that’s a great deal for a 2020.

Config attached for the 2019. If the 2020 is a better deal, I might go for that

Does that ever happen where any "extra" is given to the lessee? I guess to my knowledge if a car is totaled in a lease, there's no guarantee of the lessee getting any of their original downpayment back and the lease simply terminates. So if the car is totaled in say, the last month of the lease it's not an issue but if it's totaled 6 months into the lease that's nearly a total loss of downpayment amount.

But I could be wrong, I'm by no means an expert on this.

Yes, it will always happen whenever the insurance payment is more than what is owed on the lease. The lessor can only take what they are owed.

Keep in mind what I said, it is no different than putting a down payment on a loan. You lose that money also if the car is totaled early in the loan. Of course nowadays there are some insurance policies that pay for a new vehicle when totaled for both loans and leases so then there would definitely not be an issue with the downpayment if it makes financial sense.

Once it is determined to make financial sense (usually in case of high MF and low RV) then just like most other financial/investment decisions, it comes down to risk tolerance. The odds of totaling a car are very slim for most of us so in my opinion not even a concern, some think otherwise.
