7/2019.39 stories

Sorry, but I am dizzy by all the scattered posts that are not specific when they refer to 7/2019.39.

I propose that those who have 7/2019.39 help the rest of us understand what they have encountered specific to this software. That would inform us on whether to discourage or encourage the dealer to do this upgrade the next time our G05 shows up at the dealer.

It might be possible to put together a list of things to check - like which type of auto-high-beams function is lost - if the dealer does this update and whether we leave our vehicle over night or find it better to do a return visit, the relevance of certain G05 configurations, and so on.

My dealer installed 7/2019.39 today and did so very quickly. (Ironic that the loaner was almost identical to my G05 and I could have survived one more day.)

I must now search several threads to look for what check like the auto-high beams in the morning. Today I had to reset my seat and various other settings like data privacy and remote start.

The test will be this weekend when I return to the open road for a few hundred miles.

I do not have the nav issue reported on this thread: https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...62&postcount=1

More importantly, unlike earlier horrible reports like this one, my install was done in less than 4 hours and no major problems even after forgetting to do a reboot: https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...8&postcount=26

Like this thread, Siri does not work as it did in the past: https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1640028

I left home too late to check auto high-beams but I am hoping that at least the 8/7/19 version of 7/2019.39 does not have such bugs.

My car has been in since Monday 8/5 for first oil change, tire rotate balance and SW update from the March release to current version. I understand it has been updated to 7/2019.39 and was ready for pick up but the service manager asked to hold it as another update was pending release on 8/6; perhaps a bug fix?

Dealer was having some issues getting the new SW released from BMW accepted installed in the car. Hoping they changed to version number if it's a update from .39, I have an Android phone so I won't have any insight into Carplay/Siri issues. Dealer just called and it's ready, so I'll be picking up it soon. Will check both the Nav and automatic high beams to be sure both seem okay before I leave with it, interesting it can take four days for routine maintenance..

Just picked up my car and latest available update as of this morning remains as 7/2019.39; the August update was pulled back after there were some new issues introduced related to the sunroof operation...yep. My Navigation seems fine and no issue with automatic high beam function appearing active, not sure that it actually works yet at it's still daylight here.

Well my dealer shafted me and did not do the update as requested, gave them a list of 15 bugs with idrive also - are you guys just asking for it or are you referencing a particular issue and they are doing the upgrade?

Really hope we don't have to bring it to the dealer every time there's a software update. Particularly because BMW touted the OTA ability of the X5 when it was launched in August 2018.

It's one year later, and I am not sure if any owner has done a single OTA update themselves yet.

As an aside, where are you all going to see that there is a new software version released? Is there a page on the BMW website?

I would like to bookmark it so that I can track releases.

Thanks.

Like others when seeking a particular software, I always list multiple issues that should be addressed by the update. In this last episode, I quoted a thread from this forum when my SA did not seem to know anything about 7/2019.39.

I literally listed 15 things that are known things I experience that should be addressed by the update and the service paperwork says there is no fix yet for the carplay issues and bmw is researching, so seems they didn't fix it because they I guess think there will be another update soon and are trying to avoid doing it twice, will get more info in the morning.

Part of the issue is BMW doesn't seem to publish what they fix in each update, so there is no easy way to tell what may even be addressed.

On top of not doing the update - they did some battery update is all they did, the BC button stopped working for the ride home, yet another bug - after it sat for a bit I restarted and it seemed to work again - had not actually had the BC button issue before.

My dealer seems to understand the value of bringing the car to most recent stable release. When I arrived at the service department they scanned my key and had a print out indicating a newer release of the SoftWare (SW) was available. I asked them to install the most current release as I understood it offered both better stability and some feature enhancements. I did not need to site any specific concerns to get the update, but that is a good strategy.

I get impression that bringing the cars to the current build is their preferred way to help the service team and customers, when I did not get the August update I asked why and that's when the service tech noted that sometimes new software introduces new issues which can sometimes appear to be mechanical failures; they can spend unnecessary time tracking down issues only to learn it's a SW related problem, which is frustrating for both the service team and the customer. Especially when the solution means waiting for the next SW release, hope they do a better job quality testing the upcoming releases especially when they move to over the air updates!

I did a preliminary test this morning and it appears my lasers did not activate auto high-beams. The best test will likely come only late next week.

Reading this thread does make one question whether BMWAG or BMWNA has hired people who have the skills to manage all the technology in the current BMW vehicles. I am very hesitant to have my X5 software updated. While I have no cornering lights everything else seems to work but I do need to perform an idrive reboot occasionally.

One thing the update finally fixed is that the media stays on presets. Before it would keep switching to fm or Sirius xm and I would go and switch to presets. Now it stays there

Can you now scroll through content on iOS devices with the wheel scroll and in iDrive? (As opposed to the endless "Please Wait...")

I can use the wheel to scroll music on my iPhone X when connected by BT.

Yes. Makes CarPlay useable now. But this has always been the case with idrive 7

New features

Just got my car back after a week of programming, including update to 7/2019.39. (I have an super early build and this is my first software update, have suffered lots of bugs since I took delivery last November.)

—I have rear daytime running lights! Was very disappointed then they were eliminated from all bmws years ago; but they are back!
—I like the larger map display between tach and speedo
—my cornering lights now work, but not with turn signals or in reverse.
—what are "experience modes?" Never heard of this. It offers options called executive, expressive and well-being.
—what is "caring car?" Offers me options called "vitalize" and "relax."
—CarPlay is hopefully more stable now.

I am also seeing the BC button issue very frequently ...
weather app will stop working randomly with nothing showing up on screen

Bluetooth is another issue -- I play music via bluetooth and it'll randomly stop (lost connection) for about 3-5 sec and then connects again, it's v annoying...

My software update to 03.2019 was done in May, but i started seeing the above issues more often since July
