Sitting in hotel now, excited to take delivery tomorrow. Hope to get some sleep.

Arrival day went great. Was picked up at the airport in a G05 40i M-sport, mineral white on coffee extended. I got to the hotel at 10:30 am and my room was already available for check-in!

I had shipped some packages to myself at the hotel trying to fly down lighter. Packages were waiting for me with no problems, some important fluids I couldn't take in my carry on, so the $12 shipping was well worth it.

Courtesy shuttle to and from the Walmart was offered to pick some things up in order to save time tomorrow after delivery is complete.

Dinner was quite nice, all things considered. The chilled corn chowder was the star of this meal. The steak option wasn't the greatest cut of meat (and was sliced already) while the greens were notably over-salted.

The Georgia Tech football team is also staying in the Greenville Mariott tonight in preparation for their game against Clemson tomorrow night.

Will post tomorrow at some point, going to try to get some sleep.

Is that silver bottle with the green label Cockpit Premium? Where did you get it? The new formula with the new company isn't the same.

It sure is, good eye!

I did not know that, this is a bottle I've had for a couple of years now. It's getting low, so I'm not happy to hear this.

Today went GREAT.

I'm just getting out of the car for the first time since leaving the performance center. Once I'm back home and settled I'll put something more substantial together as a short recap.

The car is phenomenal. Really. Initial build quality, road manners, power train, and the interior just generally being a nice place to be; Its just a really impressive product that's been delivered to market here. .

My travel partner commented today "yup, now this is a big boy car. It's more 7er than 5er." And I couldn't agree more. The 40i is more than enough grunt in it, IMO.

The first PCD X4M was in my group today as well.

I'm just getting off the road at home and normal life calls me back to routines. I'll put together some my experience and opinion on it in a post in the general section sometime tomorrow evening.

Really a great trip overall, even if I did hit something on the highway kicked up in front of me at 997 miles on the odometer. Wtf, you know.

Thankfully it didn't hit the bumper but the car will go to my local dealership Tuesday to get put in the air. Nothing dripping or leaking so far, just looks like the lower engine tray took the brunt of the impact.

But seriously, what a car though. The theme I've decided on is "it's all a bit much".

Yikes, that sucks! But glad it doesn’t look like it was too bad. Look forward to your full report.

Agreed, I want to get it in the air to make sure no issues but parked it for an hour and just went back out for a drive and no fluids so that's a good sign.

Due to this little thing I call pisspoor time management on my part, my write up this time around will pale in comparison to my last one.

😂

Congrats on your X5. I'm a PCD newbie and am about to place an order. I am hoping you could answers some questions on the PCD process.

1) When do you finalize the docs and payment - when you place the order, when you pick up the car, when the car is in production, etc?

2) At what point do you get notified to pick up the car and how much flexibility are you given to pick up the car - are you expected to go immediately or do you have several weeks to coordinate the time?

Thanks!

You finalize payment a week or two before you go to your PCD.

Here is the FAQ on PCD

I actually final-signed my lease in the middle of the performance center delivery, and dropped it off at a UPS office the next morning. I did have an unsigned lease contract in hand, but the mileage was incorrect, so I didn't sign-off on that one. This left us with morning of UPS shipment to the hotel, but the bill of sale was already signed and provided to BMW Perf. Ctr.

If the first lease didn't have the mileage term stated incorrectly, it would have been signed by me 3 days before delivery scheduled, and mailed back the next morning.

When you order the car and say you want to do a PCD your salesman should ask you for a few date options you'd prefer. You should shoot for the 4-6 week out window here if a shorter time is important to you. I got the email confirming my date as the 29th on the 12th of that same month. So I had 16-17 days advance notice that the date was approved to coordinate airfare/road trip hotels/etc.

If the date wouldn't have worked for me, the email on the 12th advised me to reply asap in that case. I'm sure flexibility is their forte here, and moving back is a much more likely option than moving it up.

Alrighty, I've been home for 4 full days now, and finally put the effort into a writeup I felt worth others taking their time to read through.

Have posted it in the general forum here - I did this through blogspot as I find their trip reporting blog structure to be quite friendly (much more so than the Bimmerpost front-end)

If you're looking to burn even more time this Thurday morning, I'd point you to my Euro Delivery report from 4.5 years back, linked to in the post I've linked above.

Enjoy!
