You'll love it!
I was in somewhat of a similar situation as you, but new G05 or new X5M. X5M won, and looks good with my M3CS

Kief - really like your cars, especially the colour on the M3. Also liking the interior on the X5M - its not red which I find too loud but a really nice orange/saddle brown (sorry don't know the name of the colour), which gives an excellent colour combo.
Unfortunately the one I'm getting has boring black leather, but with the silver interior trim has bit of contrast. In every used X5M on sale in the UK, your interior colour or the Aragon Brown is not available. Its either black, red or silverstone white. But when buying used you have to make compromises when you find a good deal (£5k below similar age and mileage X5M's). |

i would for sure go with the x5M you really can't compare it to the g05 4.0..
ok yea so the g05 has all the latest bells and whistles but they are having huge issues with there software currently. The x5M is on a more stable platform. I was really wanting the g05 50i but just could not see myself purchasing a 90k car(mental thing). I ended up finding a 18 f15 50i for $62k with 10k miles it was driven by the sales manager. You could get the x5m for now and then upgrade maybe to the m50i in a few years |

Finally drove a G05 40i today. Comparing it to the F85, the F85 is so much better. Yes the G05 has the toys and tech and compared to my old E70 40d is quicker and smoother.
But, the G05 is too wide and too refined and quiet. It hasn't got the same aggressive and brutal nature of the F85. The F85 is just a different league. Glad I bought the F85 - just wish I had the 21" wheels. |

I only picked up my M50i w/DHP last weekend, and it's been very cold with summer rubber still on. So I'm taking it very easy. I'll report back later. This is my wife's car since the X5M was just way too much car for her (but not for me). However, I still have my M3CS to feed my need for a genuine ///M

Possibly the G05. In fact for sure G05 but it depends really on what you are looking for. I bought a brand new X5M in May 2017 and just sold it yesterday - it had 33,000km on the clock and I was the only driver. I enjoyed it but am happy to see it go now and have traded it in for a G05 4.0i. It had a number of characteristics which I got a bit fed up of and these are as follows:
1. The Ride was too stiff and uncomfortable - as its designed for extreme performance and powering out of corners in MDM mode and all the related dramatics and power that put a smile on your face thinking about them, in real life unless you go to the track you actually can't enjoy it in your day to day motoring as you thud in to every bump, ridge, and pothole in the road. 2. The steering was annoyingly heavy. Driving around town and especially in car parks has been a pain in the A. Also in normal cars if you loosen your grip the steering wants to straighten itself out a bit but not in X5M. No that wants you to turn the heavy wheel all the way back with all your might. (visualize trying to turn a rusty shutoff valve of a huge water pipeline). This was esp annoying in tight spots. 3. The brakes being huge and special with drilled disks and blue calipers really set expectations high but their performance was not impressive. Sometimes just to make it for a last minute red signal would be scary as you plow your foot down hard into the pedal and it almost wouldn't stop in time as you overshot the line - it doesn't stop like you would imagine it might. Plus they squeaked for 2 and a half years straight of ownership.. sounded like a bus braking. 4. The interior looked old and outdated. And although I'm one who likes old school speedometers etc., the color they used was very off putting. The gauges were a weird depressing off white color and it felt like they belonged to some cheap car from the 80's. 5. Nobody seems to enjoy the power except you. Passengers don't like it or think you're cool. (Mother in law complained, fathers neck started hurting after a heavy acceleration, friends eye roll.) Only you as a driver enjoy the few times you get a good stretch off road and put the medal to the medal. Maybe show someone else on the road who "challenges" you who's boss etc. by zooming off or something. But really the issue is that its really not right to ever speed on public roads where other people are driving with their children or other loved ones in the cars and contribute to danger on the roads. So basically if you can't/shouldn't speed in your car, so then what's the 567 hp for and why have so many comfort related compromises in order to have this power. 6. Modern day traffic spoils the whole point of the M power. Don't know about everyone else, but in my city, downtown the traffic moves at 30kmh, and on the highway the limit is 90kmh but with traffic moves usually at 40-70kmh during commute. Yes the X5M engine potential is all going to waste and as you burn 15L/100km or some 16mpg you just sit in traffic frustrated wishing you lived in Germany and had free time to go up and down the autobahn. 7. Cabin is noisy and annoying. It doesn't sound cool like a ferrari or anything. It's more like being on a factory floor, unless you like lots of white noise drone in the background while you drive all the time. 8. If you do find emptier roads and are in the mood for a zoom - depends on your luck coz if a cop sees you youre in trouble. It gets so fast so quick it could change your life badly. Honestly if you get suspended from driving for a year or six months or fined like 10,000 dollars what will you do. Or worst case scenario at fault accident. 9. Like someone else mentioned - the F85 does look a bit van-ish from the back now. Not the best shape looks wise. 10. The transmission in auto mode in F85 X5M was no good. It's not intuitive and never knew what you wanted it to do. For the entire time of ownership I used the paddles - The whole time. In comfort mode it would change in to 8th gear at 50kmh. For what? Fuel economy - its taking it too far. This car goes to 300kmh - 8th gear is to take you from 250-300. Ok fine for cruising and since there's so much torque it can be used earlier but at least be over 100kmh. Its settings were just strange imho. And if you would notch the gear mode up to level 2 or 3 then it would hold gears too long - there was not a comfortable middle ground i found. Sorry for long essay. The car was my dream before buying, my baby for a while. Treated it so well and pampered it and then tired of it. Was emotional rollercoaster seeing it go. Took a day to sink in. But I think you should go for the latest G05 X5. Drive safe everyone. |
