expected to wait only 1 week, now running on 3 weeks
Hello everyone, first post here. So yea, title pretty much explains it. It was at the preparation center for like 2 1/2 weeks and the guy at the dealership keeps telling me it'll come this day, but when i email him, he tells me there's a delay (informing me he's puzzled about the situation himself). This has been very inconvenient on my part since I have been needing a car the past month. The reason I decided to get a car that has already docked is that I couldnt wait the 6-8 weeks to order a car with my specific options. But now I have been waiting 3 weeks with a car that has a couple options I didnt really want. My sister told me that Honda gave her a rental car until their new car arrived, does anyone know if BMW offers such service? Please share any stories you may have with experiencing bad service and what they did to calm you down . Thanks in advance!!

Looks like they are only obligated to tell you if it is >3% of the cars total value.

Yep...likely the car sustained some damage or glitch since leaving the production plant that was now picked up at the VPC. And you are right...they are not completely obligated to tell you about the problem unless it is greater than that percentage value of the vehicle. I feel for you man! Having to wait now for a car without the exact specs is no fun....but you are still ahead..3-4 weeks vs 10 weeks ordering. Good luck.

BTW, if there is reported damage, can I do something about it? Or am I going to be stuck with a car that already sustained >3% damage before I even had my hands on it?
I certainly will ask if there was damage, but what will my response be if he tells me there was? |

I would only guess that many cars sustain some form of damage during the production and shipping process. As long as they fix it or replace it to new condition, I think you are stuck with the car.

Can I switch cars?
Do you guys know if I am still able to get another car? Or am I obligated to stick with this car? I was thinkin of asking what they have available in the lot and just choosing one of those if I like them.

Agreed...if you have not paid for the car, you can back out. Any deposit should be refundable.
If they report damage to you, that is, it sustained a substantial amount of repairs requiring reporting...you should have the option to get a different vehicle. If the dealer is good...you can always pick something on the lot and take that NOW...they can then sell the other one once it arrives. Remember....YOU DID NOT order this vehicle..it was already on the way. You just agreed to take it, because it was close to delivery. So...you should be able to decide on a different one, if they can't get it to you as they previously discussed. If they do not allow you to do this...and you have not paid for the car...I would be very wary of their practices. You may want to go check out what a competing dealer has "on the lot"...may give you some leverage and an out..... if you need it. Good luck!!

I wouldn't want a car that has sustained damage before you even recieved it :/
Call them and take a car off the lot today... :-) then at least you'll be rolling before the end of the week! |

You can request that your dealer look for a VPC Damage Disclosure on the DCS (BMW Computer Network). They know how to do it, but may play stupid. My former E46 330Ci had one. Small scratch on the front bumper cover. BMW NA will also disclose the severity of the damage. |
