PSA: Check your door strike bolts mine were loose!

So, my wife told me her door wasn't shutting right, was sticking out a bit further than it used to when closed.

Took a look and sure enough, sticking out like 1/8-1/4 further than it should be to be flush. I check the strike and it is loose, bolts I can turn by hand they are so loose and I can see where the strike used to be as it had moved, adjusted torqued and all good. Check the rest, rear drivers was far from tight but not as loose, passenger side also not tight but not bad, had to re-torque them all though, none were properly tightened.

What's the torque and should Loctite or equivalent be used?

That's just crazy. How that passed quality check is surprising. Unless the dealer did work on car....

I'd report it to dealer so they can advise BMWNA.

X2. I want my dealer to know I had to tighten it.

I am assuming that roadkillrob is talking about this striker plate, if so, here is the TIS spec on tightening torque.. ..couldn't find the Torx# of the screw but the part number is 51212755020

If it is those ones, mine seem to be good. Whew. Looks like my X5 was made on a Thu.

For anyone old enough, reminds me of the 1980s gem Gung-ho. This scene.

Yes this. the drivers door was finger loose, could turn them with my finger on the socket to tighten then - they are T-40.

Dealer has never worked on the car, except for updating the software they first day they had it, nothing else I know of - certainly is possible the door wasn't flush when it arrived and they adjusted and did not torque.

Rob - Mine was built within 5 days of yours. Just went out and checked with a Torx... all four door's screws did not budge. I'm not sure could have loosened them if I tried... They we absolutely locked in place.

I'd imagine these bolts would have some sort of thread locker on them - loctite blue or maybe even red?
