What is everybody’s take on powder coating rims black? I’m getting a 2022 X5 MC in Tanzanite Blue and thinking about powder coat for the rims.

If the rims aren’t black to begin with I usually powder coat them.

My personal preference is that blue cars looks better with silver/machine finishes wheels. Wheels should always pop imo.
Also the powder coating process involves baking the wheels in high temperatures which some people say weaken its structure. Not to say that wheels will cause problems for a daily driver because tons of people have done this including myself but just a note to consider. Alan |

I like contrast, but I still prefer darker wheels on mine. It just feels meaner and more aggressive. |

Yours is as dark as I would go. Those are more silver than black especially when the sun hits the brushed finish.
I guess for me I was never a fan of black wheel unless its a red car but everyone has their preference.

The stormtrooper look is a classic, gotta say I've done it a couple times.
What I don't like about black wheels is not the look of black wheels; I don't like that you have to use tire dye/black, whatever you want to call it, or else the blackness of the wheel makes the tire look old even when it's clean. It's like an extra car wash step my pathetic old butt doesn't want to deal with, but I'm not quite old enough just to say the hell with it. |

Black always looks good! I find with a blue car, black accents really make the blue pop.
I would avoid a flat black and make sure the place that powder coats has a good clear coat process.

Powdercoating is the way to go. It is applied electrostaticly and cured with heat. The end result is typically more durable than regular paint or other finishes.
