Disabling hotn when locking vehicle while engine is running

Hello.,

Most time I’m running around locally doing errands., and with this 101degrees weather., i dont feel like turning off the car., so what I do when I stop somewhere for say 1-3 minutes is to lock the car w comfort access handle or fob. This triggers the car to honk the horn twice. It really irritates me as it just causes unwanted attention. Any idea how to disable this? I dont have bimmercode., bit if this is the only option, then I’ll have to buy one. 21 with latest 7.3 software

Thanks

Go in menus on idrive you can just have it flash the lights with no honking.

There is an acoustic disable option (2x beep) but not for the horn

Bimmercode is the easiest option - easy to do yourself. No dealer is going to code it off for you (it's a safety feature i.e. to prevent you from mistakenly leaving the car running in your garage) and other coding options are more costly / complicated

BimmerCode would be the easiest option to disable the horn when locking with the engine running.

I don’t think that honk can be disabled. It is warming you car is running and you lock from outside or fob. It is not the typical lock/unlock signal setting.

This is safety feature and I don't think it can be disabled.

I disabled it with Bimmercode:
Horn signal when lock car with engine running
-not active (default: active)

My wife and kids needs the A/C running if I hop out to run a quick errand. That honk was freakishly loud.

I read somewhere that if you place the fob against the windshield right above the where the VIN is displayed and lock it the horn won't honk.

The fob against the glass does work. I guess it tricks the car into thinking you are locking the doors while inside as it can detect the range of the fob when the button is pressed. I’ve noticed the range is different for doors unlock compared to boot unlock (you need to be much closer).

I’ve coded mine off with Bimmercode though, as above very straightforward to do but you will need the ODB dongle thing and the Bimmercode app, pressing the fob on the glass is free!

I must be missing something. If there are passengers in the car, why do you need to lock it? Just leave the fob in the car with them.

Probably to prevent somebody from assaulting his family and possibly stealing his car. I do the same thing at times, especially if it's less convenient to bring everyone inside the gas station.

If family includes any person a bit older than say 5 or so, just have them lock after you leave and verify it prior to you walking away...

I like keep the fob with me so I can just open the door or trunk when I return to the car.

If my wife held on to the fob, she’ll likely be on her mobile phone, and I’ll have to knock on the window and wait for her to unlock the doors.

Why would you say that? Your comment doesn’t bring any value to this forum. If you’ve read my post., I specifically said that “locking the vehicle “ which means that I lock my car at all times but don’t necessarily want the horn to honk twice, causing disturbances and unwanted attention. Thanks

Because I mistakenly thought that the horn was a warning you could not lock the car while it was running. Sorry about that.

Dont be sorry. Its cool. Yes., i’m trying to get rid of the honking. I’m reading it can only be coded out., which I honeymay just have to do that and purchase bimmercode. Never have used it, not never coded any of my Previous BMW’s.
