I just installed a JuiceBox 40A after using the 110V 12A charger from my Chevy Bolt to charge the 45e for a few months.

In 5 years of owning the Bolt, the level 1 charger has been sufficient. Odd that the PHEV and its slow charging speeds pushed me to install a level 2 charger when the pure electric vehicle hadn’t.

I don't think that is what is making the difference. 110Vx12A will charge the same rate in 45e or in Bolt. It is just that Bolt can go much further (2x) per kWh than 45e. EPA is 3.6mi/kWh for Bolt, 1.8mi/kWh for 45e.

yeah that didn’t make sense to me either. when either Amps are maxed for their respective level 1 charging capabilities, they both charge at a rate of ~5 miles per hour

the Bolt just had a bigger bank of miles so charging to full, even at a slow rate, wasn’t critical. some 45e owners want all those 31 electric miles, though. still, one has to understand the electric miles on a PHEV serve an overall different purpose than a full EV

I am looking for…

A) 110v charger (plug in or wall mounted) that will maximize the charge times from a 20 amp circuit

B) ideally a charger that has some metering & scheduling capability so I can record how much electricity Im using for charging and ensure I am mostly charging after 9pm when rates are lower.

I got the Emporia $399.

I didn’t articulate my point very well.

I agree and understand that the same amount of charge is going into the cars if the charger is able to max out. What it translates into in terms of usable range is very different.

That L1 charger could put roughly 70 miles into the Bolt overnight (which is about 25% of available capacity). The same overnight charge on the X5 might also put in 25% or whatever of available capacity, but it is far less usable range given the X5’s electric traction efficiency. And the L1 charger at 12A basically couldn’t fully charge the X5 overnight.

50e here, using the 'flexible fast charger' that came with the car. Bought the 14-50 adapter for 200 bucks to actually get fast charging.
