I know this has been asked in various iterations, but there have been so many small bugs that have surfaced, I’m gonna ask again….
Would you consider an extended warranty on the X5 50e ( because it’s a newer model PHEV with some rep of electric issues) if your plan was to keep the car 4-5 years? The caveat is I have never purchased an extended warranty but I wasn’t on Bimmerpost either which has both informed me and made me a bit paranoid, too!!! Thank you Maya |

My thought is that there is one common issue bugging these vehicles which will be repaired before. After that… generally you won’t make your money back with extended warranty. It’s more for peace of mind. Dealer quoted me 7k CAD for 3 years. And extended warranty tends to not cover everything there likely will be some exclusions. So I tend to avoid it. One great suggestion I heard is, take that money, invest it. It’ll grow, if you need to use it for repairing the car, great. If not you haven’t burnt it. |

Isn’t there factory warranty already, in Canada:
drivetrain covered under the factory warranty of 4 Years or 80,000KM. The Hybrid Battery 5 years or 100,000KM. The PHEV battery, Safety Box, SME 8 years or 128,000KM. |

There is no need to buy an extended warranty especially at this time. You have a new vehicle warranty that lasts four years so if before that expires you feel like you need one you can shop around and buy one then.

I am in Canada
Although they have the warranty listed above: I was told that only 3 years of pre paid maintenance is included now (used to be 4 years) I paid for the top up to get 4 years I also paid for the tire and rim for 3 years. I know it’s controversial and people feel it’s not worth it. I used it twice with my last x5 and it paid for itself |

I agree, best to wait till closer to the end of the factory term. you never know if you will end up keeping the car past the term or not. You can use that money for other things. There is some situations where it is a little cheaper when you do it earlier, however I am not 100% on all the situations so its best to find out based on your vin/situation for the options you have available to you.
however if anyone is interested in a BMW plan we blow them out as everyone knows, Christine can also answer any questions regarding plans and your vin situation https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1676787
