Head Unit H5 or MGU22

For those of you that have this head unit can you code anything with bimmercode? In case you dont know what head unit you have go to system setting>Regulatory notes> head unit and see what it says. Thank you.

All LCI vehicles have High Head Unit 5/MGU22. The regulatory notes do not tell you which head unit is in the vehicle but rather which head units can be used. We have had folks with X7's built last Sept show MGU22.

LCI vehicles can not be coded with any tool since BMW switched to Secure Coding.

Thank you. Do you know what secure coding is? Only BMW dealers can code?

Secure coding means the configuration data that you would normally be able to customize per ECU with tools like BimmerCode is now signed by BMW backend to mitigate unauthorized changes. Even dealers cannot modify. The dealers or anyone with access to BMW can load signed/secure coding data during ECU updates and replacements but cannot make custom changes from factory. The only changes that dealers and some others can do is retrofits for things that are already capable (VO Coding) like adding a tow hitch as an example.

It is not related to that as far as I know.

We haven not seen anything that would prevent you from doing that.

Nobody except BMW knows the real answer but I've heard everything from regulatory compliance to self driving feature safety and of course warranty motivations.
