Charging an X5 50e- fastest time?
Hello
I just took possession of my 2024 X5 50e and in prep i installed a level 2 charger in my home. However I’m curious, what is the fastest way to charge the car? I know we can’t use the DC current fast chargers, but are there quicker ways to charge than a level 2 charger? Thank you! |

nope, Level 2 (240V ACV) at 32A is the fastest the 50e will accept. numbers aside, you can try to improve the efficiency of all components involved, but doing so won’t significantly improve charge times

Since all of the conversion of AC occurs inside the vehicle, once you reach maximum current it will allow you are, well, at the maximum. A larger capacity charger won't help. Heat and cold can lower the limits, so if you can charge in a location that is close to room temperature that would be best.
The only other thing that can help is to make sure your electrical source is at or above the rating. Using thicker wire than the minumum, keeping the run as short as possible, and using pure copper wire can all minimize voltage drop. Last edited by Gene Horr; 09-07-2023 at 03:53 PM.. |

I typically get to full from empty in a few minutes over 3 hours with a hardwired Juicebox 48A. The car is clearly the limiting factor, not my EVSE. |
