My latest experience at the dealer

I just took my car into my 2nd oil change (25,000km). I told my service advisor there were 2 items that may be warranty issues.

1. There's a high pitch whistling that comes from the driver's side mirror when I reach 55km/h. I can only hear it when I'm driving with the window down.

2. Steering column makes a slight grinding noise when lowering, after it has extended fully. It doesn't really bother me since it only happens when I'm starting the car.

So I get a call a few hours after I dropped off my car. My SA told me they were replacing the mirror housing and replacing the steering column. I wasn't really expecting the techs to fix either issues so I was pleasantly surprised

I’m glad to hear your service visit went well. Hopefully the fixes mentioned above corrects the problem!

I've noticed the same whistling noise in mine also. Curious to know how exactly the new mirror housing fixes the issue - is it a different re-designed shape?

Car is still in the service dept right now. I’ll give an update when I get the invoice!

I'm not 100% sure what they replaced, it looks the same though. I told my SA, I taped painter's tape along the mirror arm (the gap where the mirror folds in) and that got rid of the whistling noise...so the tech actually tried that according to the notes below.

Here's what they replaced:
1. 3384 VERIFY CUSTOMER CONCERN NOISE COMING FROM DRIVER DOOR MIRROR.TAPED AND RECHECK NO NOISE COMING .NEEDS NEW MIRROR HOUSING
51BMZ201 -
EXTERIOR TRIM (1)
Labor
$0.00
1. 3384 replaced driver outside mirror .transfer camera from old to new mirror
2. 3384 after replacing driver outside mirror found code 804248 Exterior mirror, left (LIN): Lane departurewarning reports a defect in the mirror. 25373 km / 15766 mls run test plan no fault found. after resetting bodymodule was able to erase code
Parts
51-16-8-738-349 - Heated outside mirror, memor 1
07-14-6-961-019 - Torx screw with washer 3
Part Note: beisde griffin cart
51-41-7-325-082 - Clip 2

I looked up part # 51-16-8-738-349, it looks to be the entire mirror assembly??

I had both issues on my 2020 M50i which I no longer own. I just placed clear tape over the gap which solved the whistling as you had stated and really couldn’t see it. Dealer replaced my steering column assembly which fixed the issue. Hopefully everything is resolved for you.

Yeah, That does look like the entire mirror assembly. Weird. I drove my car on the freeway yesterday and rolled the window down and had no noise this time. All the parts appear to be seated well. I've read that there is a bottom cap piece on the stationary part of the assembly that can pop out a bit and cause the noise, but mine seemed seated well.
