X5 i60 vs X5 50e

So it’s time for a new car. Coming from a 535xdrive and want an suv. Considering cayenne s vs one of these X5’s. Drove all 3 today. 2024 cayenne is nice. Definitely handles like a sports car but not as luxurious inside. Screens small etc. So I think I want the X5 but can’t decide on which model. What do you think? Also can we get some clear taillights for the X5? Much thanks

Go to Rennlist and look at the Cayenne forums. Lots are opting for the X5 over the Cayenne. Cost is so much higher on a Cayenne and they have a Cayman or 911 if they want sporty.

I went through the same calculus as I really wanted the new Cayenne hybrid. It priced out $40k more than an equivalent (if not higher spec) X5 50e. I’m not an oligarch so I’ll “settle” for the BMW.

I'm coming from Porsche back to BMW and wouldn't consider a Cayenne. I've been really disappointed with the modern Porsche brand. Brilliant handling but not a pleasant ownership experience. Dealers have taken a major step back on service and have become greedy. Dealership wanted to charge $680 (!!!!!) for an oil change recently. Most of their ICE engines are a step behind with poor fuel economy and the user-facing tech is not very good.

On the X5 models, having PHEV capability for daily driving was much more important to me than getting the V8, so not a tough choice personally.

The Porsche configurator is rage inducing, theres a trillion options to choose from.

For me, comfort is the priority. To the OP: What's your priority?

I just cross-shopped the Cayenne and X5–both base models.

I felt the i6 engine was superior in the X5.
User tech and cabin comfort goes to X5.
Cost goes to X5.

Handling and arguably looks goes to Porsche, but the X5 is one of the best handling SUVs after the Cayenne, and it looks quite nice.

I chose the X5–the cost for the Cayenne was too great. Especially if you want the S or some options. If you are less sensitive to cost, the Cayenne can be a great car. Their 911 and Box/Cayman are awesome though.

Thanks! As much as I want the handling of the cayenne the X5 is much more practical and handles well enough and the tech inside is so much better. What about turbo lag. My 2013 535 has a second of lag when I pull out quickly into traffic. Is the V8 X5 gonna be much better than the hybrid? I think pulling out quickly is the only time where speed is essential to me.

Other way around. The 50e has ~200ft/lb of electric torque fill that will be instantaneous.

I did the same comparison and ended up with the m60i. I liked the Cayenne but could not justify the additional cost.

The S and the M60i are the models I was looking at as the base is not enough. The e-hybrid was delayed due to issues. Not going for the turbo as that cost is way up there when loaded with options.

I just got my 60i and I am happy with it. No remote start is another thing that would annoy me with Porsche.

As far as which x5, I wanted rear wheel steering, high performance and bowers audio and that narrowed things down quickly to the m60i.

We have owned a '20 Cayenne Base and were completely underwhelmed with that vehicle, dumped out of it after 11 months. Base 3.0 liter Porsche V6 is weak for a high perfomance brand. The BMW I6 B58 is a superior engine for sure. Handling of the Cayenne might be a tad better when comparing to the entry level X5s but not anything to pop corks over and a very subjective parameter. Our '22 Macan GTS tuned to 500HP is another matter entirely that has superb cornering and rips ass in a straight line.
I considered ordering a '24 Cayenne S with the V8 this time around along with the option of waiting for the GTS. Porsches price increases are just totally unjustified at this point and had no problem going with the X6 M60i.
Extremely satisfied with our new M60i on all levels, a perfect vehicle for me especially with the new M level S68 engine which is magnificeint.
