considering a 2020 x5.
Found this florida x5 that was registered as a rental.. had engine mounts and crankshaft seal replaced around 20k miles.. I hear this may happen in southern states due to heat but still feels unusual… have a feeling this
X5 was beaten pretty good.. https://www.carfax.com/VehicleHistor...gDate=20230530 My gut tells me to avoid but cant find decently priced black 2020 x5 :/ |

Is it cheap? It should be with that history. I would not be interested in that car for these reasons:
1. Rental. Run away from a rental, esp. a BMW rental. I wonder how many times it's been "launched"? 2. That's a lot of engine work on a fairly new car. 3. It's out of factory warranty. CPO helps, but doesn't cover everything. 4. Spotty service history. And not always dealer serviced. Big gap from 28K to 53K miles. I would be surprised if a quick service oil change shop uses BMW certified oil. Keep looking. A one owner car with lower miles that is still in warranty is a much better choice IMHO, even if it costs more. Good luck! |

The X5 is expensive. It can be expensive to fix and maintain. If you can’t find a 2020 in your range, you need to look at an older car or wait for a private party that wants a bit more than the trade offer.
I can guarantee you will be unhappy with a rental car that had engine mounts replaced after 20000 miles. |

Avoid a rental fleet vehicle at all cost as others have stated. People renting them have zero respect as just a temporary vehicle so they drive them not like they would their own. Cars.com or other solar resources should help you find a 2020 or slightly older X5 within your price range that was privately owned, etc.
The crankshaft seal and engine mounts being replaced is not a normal occurrence in the southern states. That did on my wife's 2017 X5 I did have to replace some rubber suspension items and that was indeed due to the 110 plus summer heat days here in Phoenix. |
