Clear ceramic tint

Anyone have familiarity with clear ceramic windshield tint?

Was it worth it? Approximately how much did it run you?

I don't intend to get tint on the other windows as the privacy glass is fine by me. Just wanted to get clear ceramic for the windshield to help heat protect the car and dash.

Any other tips/advice re: clear ceramic is welcome!

I'll check and see if we're legally able to do 70%

My understanding is we can only do tint to the AS1 line or 5" (whichever is shorter).

I think if I can even do 90% that will help the heat and make the HUD clearer

Yeah 90% I believe is clear , the greater the number the clearer the tint

Yes, that's correct. 90% is basically clear with a very very light shade IIRC. I spoke to a local shop and they said they'll do the AIR90 film on the windshield for $250.

I think it's pretty reasonable. Still looking around in the Austin area

Please excuse my lack of knowledge on this topic. How do you deal with the TX State inspection sticker on the inside of the window with tint? And/or is the tint installed on the outside?

Actually hasn't thought of that but since I won't have a sticker for the first month or so, I'll be fine.

Glass > tint > sticker

Doubt it'll be an issue

How's the heat reduction? Anything noticeable?

I'm in TX and heat reduction is a major factor

I got mine done in San Antonio using xpel film. I did the whole car...including the sunroof. I’m a dermatologist. The factory tinted windows don’t block UV so you’ll still get skin cancer causing rays...plus it will end up fading the interior over time. There’s a guy at mark motors in Boerne just outside San Antonio who worked at the Xpel HQ in San Antonio and he did the windows and the whole clear bra up front. I recall $800 for all the windows.

I noticed a huge difference in heat rejection. I’ll always have this in my cars from now on.

$800 all the way around is not bad!

I'll look into them since San Antonio is right around the corner from Austin. Thank you for the tip!

Mark motors is a great private dealership and wrap/clear bra/windows setup. They have some pretty high end cars there- hard to find bentleys, ferraris, lambos, mclarens, and higher end bmws and mercs. They do a great job

I found a pretty decent shop in Austin for my PPF + ceramic but I haven't committed to tint so might end up with Mark Motors

Live in El Paso. Would never have a car without. Heat reduction is very good.

What % did you do on your windshield? I've had a variety of brands installed over the years and I've settled on Xpel being my favorite, but their lightest shade of XR Plus is 70%. I had it on the two front side windows of my X3 and was very happy with the results, but would like to hear first hand from someone who did it on the windshield as well.

My windshield is completely clear....or at least I don’t notice any tint at all. I asked for clear because I’m in the military and didn’t want to move to different states and break any windshield tint laws.

Llumar has air80 which is bluish tint and is actually much better when you drive with it.

For me, I put 50 percent on my cars and no problem at all when driving. it does not affect HUD at all even with 35 percent tint.

If it is ceramic film, heat rejection will be much better than dyed film. Just don't get metallic one.

you can look at the heat rejection rate on manufacture spec.
