Regarding insurance, expecting to pay significantly higher premium for the 50e, having considerably more power and higher value than my GLE 350 DE that it’ll be replacing, and also that insurer will require tracker to be fitted - the type referred to in:

Dealer says I can still add Trackstar, to be fitted at the distribution centre prior to delivery, but though convenient, the consistently negative TrustPilot reviews of that company - https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/trackstar.co.uk - reportedly poor customer service, false alarms/alerts, wrong location information etc, rather put me off. What’s anyone’s experience been of Trackstar, or any other make of tracker (in UK)?
I've got the Trackstar tracker, I've found the (UK) customer service to be very good but I've only had to contact them by phone once and a couple of times by email.

Can't say anything wrong about Trackstar, it works, only thing to remember to replace battery in the tag when is not recognised by the tracker and you have call from Tara.

I recommend considering NFU Mutual, as their advantages offer an extensive range of benefits compared to traditional insurance companies linked with the EUI group and similar entities. I chose them because they provide new car replacement for the first two years.

Followed above recommendation from Big Nick_! and found NFU to be excellent - agent went through everything over the phone to understand my situation and what the spec of the car is, during the conversation communicating with the underwriter who asked some quite probing questions as to security measures, driving experience etc, so need to be prepared! And though NFU did not have any information about the 50e, able to create a new category for it, based on my explanation as to differences from the 45e - increased power of course being the most significant. So pleasantly surprised when quote came out at £645.53 inc IPT, with £500 voluntary excess, whereas lowest I could get through the comparison websites (with that excess) was £881.69, and that was for 45e as none of those sites have 50e yet. Moreover the NFU policy includes legal and breakdown cover, and as mentioned by Big Nick_! above, for a UK model car purchased from new, in event of total loss (theft or write off) in first two years, pays cost of replacement (such cover offered by other insurers is only for one year) effectively providing return to invoice GAP insurance for that period.

But the NFU policy is conditional on Thatcham approved tracker as to which instead of the Trackstar, I’ll get the less expensive iTracker (S7 rather than S5) from Phantom/Moving Intelligence, same company as I have tracker from on my caravan, which works fine, and thus have both vehicles on the same app.

John Waddell by the way was the agent at NFU who dealt with this for me - very good service - far better speaking to someone than all that form filling on the comparison sites!

Did also try a specialist car insurance broker advertising ‘tailored policies for your performance car’ but was hopeless, telling me could not offer anything unless car would be kept behind electric gates at home, saying that was due to recent spate of thefts in the South East, of X5s in particular (which apparently along with Land Rovers are the prime targets for car thieves) and suggesting it would be best to buy a Cayenne instead, or even an XC90! Was relieved therefore to get a very reasonable quote for the X5 from NFU - many thanks for the recommendation Big Nick_!

[QUOTE=sarpal123;30090634]I'm new here but, my 50e was sat in Charleston for 4 weeks - yes, 4 weeks with code 165. This code is "Factory exit and transit [In transit - Plant of Manufacture to Port of Departure]" NOT on a ship! Mine was only loaded yesterday and the code changed to 195 "Exit warehouse (car) (Shipped from Port of Exit) [In transit]". My original delivery date from a Genius was w/c 8th May, now it is w/c 22 May. I would double check with a Genius...

Mine has just changed to 165 today after two weeks at 155 so definitely didn't make the ship last week ...

I hope I'm not stuck there for 4 weeks like you were. Are you managing to track your ship (I'm presuming you have already sailed?)

Well, a Genius has just told me that my 50e status changed to 193 Entrance to the forwarding warehouse (car) [Arrived at Port of exit] and is forecast to be delivered w/c 15th May

However, I still can't get an insurance quote for X5 50e either from BMW or from any of the comparison sites... Surely this doesn't mean that the car will be sat at the dealer and I won't be able to drive it away? Really?

Has anyone here, in the UK, got a quote/insurance for the 50e?

Thanks, I'll call today

FWIW... Spoke to my dealer this afternoon and they have confirmed that BMW will not be providing insurance for the 50e until the 22nd May. So, I assume that if your car is arriving before then you won't be able to get a quote/insurance from BMW. I don't know if this applies to other LCI variants.

Spoke to NFU today - very helpful but has to go to underwriters to form a quote.

How many other manufacturers have this issue with new models (yes, I know this isn't a new model but you know what I mean)?

I'm glad to hear that things have gone well for you. I chose their services years ago and haven't regretted it. I sometimes look at other options, but none can beat their prices or policy perks.

There's a small thing to bear in mind. From what I understand, the new car replacement only applies if you claim on your own insurance. So if another driver hits you and writes-off your car, the 3rd party insurer will only pay the current market value of your car. So, I'd really advise looking into GAP insurance if there's finance involved.

That’s a good point, thanks - hadn’t thought of that scenario. Car won’t be on finance but worth any way having GAP cover - relatively inexpensive especially if you get direct from provider online

I got similar quotes eventually went with Admiral at £1200, think they’re very expensive to repair.

Just got in insurance renewal quote on one of our other cars, and the numbers are just all over the place - just makes no sense.
Last year £600, this year £1,100. Average of renewal quotes £800, lowest £500. I just have this vision of people plucking numbers from the air...
