Thanks again all for your thoughts. Ultimately, I went with a late model, low mileage CPO xDrive40i (black sapphire, M Sport, extended shadowline).

I actually found a CPO M50i with low mileage, went to drive it, and decided to purchase it. Over the next few days trying to structure a deal, the dealership jerked me around in a few ways that I really didn’t appreciate. The night before I planned to go and finalize the M50i purchase, this 40i popped up on the BMW website at a different local dealer. I went to check it out and quickly snagged it. It has a few options I was looking for which that particular M50i didn’t, and is slightly lower mileage.

Picked the car up this morning and have been absolutely thrilled driving it around town all day. I am confident that for 99% of my driving I won’t even notice the power difference. My only regret is that the exhaust note of the TTV8 is just so great. For a savings of $10-$15k, I’ll get over it quickly.

Over the moon with the choice, appreciate all of the feedback. Happy to be back in a BMW.

Great choice. We love our 40i. Long-term reliability and maintenance will all favor the B58 for sure. There's no place in our area to just go for a drive and enjoy the power, either. As tempting as a used M50i would have been, not worth the money for us, and it's not like the 40i is slow. If I ever want more speed, plenty of tuning options for the B58 after my wife and I swap cars in a few years and the G05 becomes my DD.

You can always spend $500 and get the Dinan Dinatronics X for an additional 40hp. https://www.dinancars.com/products/s...xoCE1EQAvD_BwE

Assume this would be flagged during service (even if removed) and probably void warranty? I know Dinan and BMW used to have an official relationship, not sure if their tunes are ‘approved’ though.

I paid a little extra to get a CPO vehicle, would hate to void the warranty in the first week.

Nothing can void a warranty. If a problem arises and they can tie it to a modification then they repair may not be covered under warranty.

Maybe, but it's very mild all things considered. I've been running it for almost a year with zero issues.

I would have been content with a 40i, only if all of the options were available, to includea handling package. Unfortunately, BMW makes you go X5M/M50i or M60i to get all of the luxury bits. In the end, for me, the M50i was the right choice.

Congratulations on your vehicle, and glad to hear you are enjoying it.
