Help with Running Boards
I would like to get running boards installed on my 2020 bmw x5 xdrive 40i. The dealership quoted me $1500 which seems like a pretty high number given that I am seeing running boards sold online for a much lower price. Eg: this one which seems like a good company for just around $250
https://www.k2motor.com/2019-2020-bm...ide-step-bars/ Wanted to get opinion how to go about this; I am not very handy so I won't be able to install them myself will enlist help from a repair shop / mechanic to install them. Please advise which way to go forward and if the $1500 quote from dealership makes sense. |

Find a local shop that installs truck accessories. They should be able to fix you up. If you want the OEM boards ask them if they will install them. Otherwise they will probably have boards that will fit. I would be sure you want them. Some have complained that they are "in the way" getting out of the vehicle.

check the cars with running boards..if you still feel you need them take a call on that..there are multiple options for running boards ..you can also check for retractable running boards which are little expensive but worth than OEM style...
below link gives some basic idea.. https://www.amazon.com/UDP-Deployabl.../dp/B08694LNRN |

With M-sport package most running boards to not fit
I have a 2021 X5 45e with M-Sport package and a very short wife. Not that i am all that tall either. I had decided to look at running boards for my vehicle.
Almost everything i see will not fit with the M-Sport package. I am even looking at electric deployable running boards (which would be my first choice), looking at Ebay and Amazon and even Alibaba. No one has me convinced yet that their product would install. Most claim that they won't and the ones that claim they will look no different than the products that say they won't. The running board that is available on the X-line version has received numerous complaints and i dont want to ruin the look of the m-sport by having to remove a panel. If anyone has found a product that they purchased and installed...please let me know! |

Doubt you'll find aftermarket running boards that will clear the M Sport door cover sill and anything that deploys from underneath your vehicle will reduce the ground clearance.
If you're not ordering factory OEM there's not a large market for aftermarket X5 running boards, unless of course you step up to X7 40i M Sport which has an option of running boards with M Sport. Or have dealer retrofit X5 OEM running boards and paint it to match the exterior color.
