Remote engine start

Remote engine start isn't a requirement, and while it 'could' work, it won't work natively on pre MY 2021 models, at least not yet.

Some very interesting internal memo content I saw in a Chinese G20 forum.
I have posted the translated content in another thread, reposting here:

Since BMW announced at the beginning of this month: Carkey digital key 1.5 will be launched in September, the previous digital key 1.0 based on Android phones will be eliminated, and The digital key activated before this time can not be renewed; the vehicle integration level that can use the digital key 1.5 must be a vehicle with a factory iLevel of 07/2020.XX, so when I upgrade to 07/2020.25, my Samsung mobile phone can no longer be used as a digital key.

Here is the official announcement:

-From July 2020 onwards, the ConnectedDrive Store will delist digital key 1.0 products and existing service can no longer be renewed. You can still renew your 1.0 digital key service product before July 1.

-If out-of-factory iLevel is older than 20-07-5xx , the vehicle supports digital key 1.0, which only supports Android phones, and the period of use is within one year after the opening of the connected driving contract; (If the user needs to use an Apple phone, the vehicle can be upgraded in the future Software, refresh the BDC module to support digital key 1.5. The specific support time and details of digital keys for Apple mobile phone users to be determined.)

For me, in my US ConnectedDrive page the Samsung Android CarKey subscription became unable to renew a few weeks ago.
The first year expired on July 12, and now it has completely disappeared.

From the BMW China announcement, Android Carkey will no longer available after July.

If digital key 1.5 behaves like I've seen in videos recently, requiring the phone to be removed from pocket to open/start the car, I don't think I'm missing much.

Do you have iStep 2020/7.25? It won't work if your car does not have the July 2020 update.

I was just updated to 07/2020.25 and I have no Apple Car key. I do have the android auto and Apple CarPlay. I will give it time. Maybe it has to register on someones database that it was updated.

Just a note that not only the iPhone now claims to support 'digital car keys', but 6.2.8 does the same for Apple Watch Series 5.

Many of Apple’s phones support it as you show...but the issue is BMW not allowing any car manufactured before this month to work with Carkey. We can only hope a software update could allow it to work.

I have the iPhone 11 Pro Max upgraded to 13.6 software along with the apple watch series 5 with also the latest upgrade that supposedly supports Apple Car Key, and no dice. My X5 is MY0319, fully equipped, only thing my car doesn't have is the B&W Sound System.

U need smart access 1.5 enabled in coding at the minimum unless you have a MY21

You wouldn't have the coding for that would you?

I do but it doesn't work. Breaks comfort access and complains about the Apple key not being registered connected drive.

This can't be retrofitted due to an incompatibility with Android devices. If they activate smart access 1.5 on older MY with 07/2020 then it will break the Android access.

Either google get with the standards, or Bmw wait until all android subs expire then retrofit.

My car is MY19 and is technically ready for DK 1.5, but I would need Bmw to cloud activate my CD account to support it.

Menu options are shown below.

The current implementation looks rubbish anyway. Not a replacement for a key fob. Maybe with smart access 2.0 you'll be able to keep the iPhone in your pocket.

I have a June 2020 Build, comfort access and still no apple wallet car key support in the CD app.

Reading this, that sounds about right? Will we ever get this capability?

I have July 2020 build and still no go on digital key. This is only an advertising stunt on BMW side.

Well, I have the most updated setup there is as far as I know.
- iPhone 11 Max Pro w/iOS 13.6.1 (could do beta 14.0 but doubt that helps)
- Apple Watch Series 5 w/6.2.8
- iDrive 7 w/ 07/2020.45
- Activated Digital Key (BMW credit card style one)

In addition, when they updated me to 07/2020.45 I did the following:
- Deleted car from my Connected Drive account
- Deleted Connected Drive app from iPhone
- IDrive Reset (Car>Settings>General>Reset Setting)
- Rebooted iDrive (Hold Volume Knob 30 Seconds)
- Added car back to Connected Drive account

Outside of all of that, my car was built 06/2020 (One month early) so right now, I'm as close as I can get but no dice. No AppleKey.

Hoping someone finds the coding in BDC3! Anybody?!? Haha!

I could care less if coding disables anything Samsung/Android as I don't have those devices. Comfort Access issues wouldn't be cool though.

Coding is easy but you won't get the digital key on your Apple device without a 08/2020 build registered in BMW Connected Drive
