BMC - - F I N A L L Y develops hi-performance M50i and X5M intake filters!

Update 6 Feb, 2021: Installation pics and review, post #86 of this thread)

I started a new thread, because the older one was 5 pages long.

Just announced January 14th, 2021!!! Sorry... I'm a week late. I just discovered this today.

High performance intake filters for the F95/F96 X5/6M.... as well as the 2020+ G05/6/7 M50i variants (Yes, as I suspected months ago, they use the EXACT same intake system and filters). This filter set will fit:
2020+ X5 M50i
2020+ X6 M50i
2020+ X7 M50i
2021+ X5M (standard and Competition)
2021+ X6M (standard and Competition)

This does NOT fit the standard 50i, or any other models. This is specifically for the folks with the X5M intake system. (there are plenty of other options for you guys though, that have been out for quite some time) I spent the money on a "hunch" for K&Ns, and tried installing standard 50i filters several months ago.... and then I documented the disaster that became of it. - LOL. I did discover the presence of the extra charcoal filters though, and I documented their removal.... That seemed to help a few people out at least. if you feel so inclined to read about it: https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1720045

But these???? We've been waiting for these a long time. I've been DEEPLY involved in trying to obtain a solution for quite some time now. K&N??? Screw K&N. I was a customer for 25 years, wrote them 3 times, and they won't even respond to an email. No.... they still don't offer one for our cars as of Jan 21st, 2021, and even if they did, they'll never get my business again anyway. I remember back when K&N didn't suck. Too bad they definitely do now.

BMC is a much smaller company, with much less money for R&D.... and yet they still managed to make a better, higher quality product than K&N.... and they did it first. They've got my vote from this day forward. BMC does not sell directly however.... you need to find a dealer.

UPDATE: RG Sport is a BMC dealer, and is getting them (read thread below), but they are 3 months out due to ocean-shipping. Pricing available soon.
UPDATE #2: Pricing will be $189 US Dollars, as per RG Sport (please read entire thread)

I called my Tuner (BR-Performance) here in Belgium (who is a BMC dealer). Price was about 190 Euros for the set ($235-ish US Dollars).... which is VERY high because I'm in Belgium. Everything is absurdly taxed here.

Nevertheless.... they are already paid-for and on order. I'll install them when they arrive in a week or so!

Everything is absurdly taxed here. In the US, they should be considerably less. It wouldn't surprise me if they were half that price in the US.

Did BMC verify the fitment for the X5 M50i? We have all suspected this was the same filter size as the X5M, but with the different part numbers there has been some confusion.

How does one purchase these? There is no way to purchase through their site and I do not see them on any other site like Amazon or through BMW Tuning shops.

Yes..... if you look on the website link I posted, it lists the F95, as well as the G05. If you'd prefer to wait though, I'll confirm it in about a week.

I am 99.9999999% positive they will fit all M50i models. The intakes are indistinguishable from one another. They use the exact same intake boxes.

Better low end torque, and a bit more "sucking" sound from the intake. Nothing earth-shattering on either account, but every little bit helps.

Ummmm..... Do you mean an X5 40i, with the Msport styling package? It will use the same filter as any X5 40i. Plenty of choices.

You are right. I didn't see it there. Great follow up in this 914. Both of us really have wanted an option and I am excited to see that option available now to the G05 crowd too. Thanks for the persistence.

Looks like the New BMC filter is the same shape as the OEM filters on the M50i.

Just got a reply from my BMC supplier.
It is 3 months out, since they are being shipped to US via Ocean Freight.
I am still waiting on the pricing.
Due to forum policy, I won't be able to post it, but I will list it on my website with pricing once I have the details.

If a bunch of us were interested, is there a way to expedite that shipping?

Unfortunately no.
BMC is owned by K&N and they don't special treatment.

Yeap, they bought BMC a few years back.

I had no idea...... especially since I did all that smack-talking about K&N.

I'm not sorry though. K&N seriously pissed me off. The one time they did respond to me, their representative had the audacity to ASK ME for the OEM part numbers. Apparently it was "too much work" for them to look it up. The other 2-3 times, they wouldn't even respond to me.

Nevertheless, I'm glad the BMC folks are delivering..... finally. I'll update the first.post with your information about ordering.

I corresponded with BMC a few times on FB, and asked them about the 3 month wait. You may want to contact them.

Don't forget to remove your stupid charcoal filters. Carbahn says on Dyno M850i same engine got 17hp to the wheels with just this!

My tuner (BR-Performance) got 680 hp from their first European-spec M50i, and then when they tuned mine, they got 690. (Crank hp)

At the time, the only mod I had done to the engine was the removal of the charcoal filters. Granted, European spec M50i cars also have OPF sensors in the exhaust too. So, that probably had something to do with the difference as well.

I've since been back for a re-tune 2 days ago (due to a BMW update that reverted the car back to stock).... and they were able to get 12 more HP on the new software, and 15 more nM of torque. Now I'm at 702/943.

The only thing I've done to the car since the first tune was remove the resonator and weld in a 3" double H-pipe. It sounds a little better, but I'm not sure if it had anything to do with the power increase. The stock resonator is essentially a baffled straight pipe setup. It wasn't "restrictive" at all.

17 wheel hp = 22+ or - crank horsepower. That's quite a bit for only filters, but then again, the M850i doesn't have nearly as much rotating mass as the X5. So, I'm not quite sure US X5 guys will see a 17 whp increase.

However..... a 10 whp increase? I think that is perfectly feasable. Coupled with high performance filters instead of the stock ones? I don't think a total of a 15 whp is out of the question at all. It seems like a perfectly reasonable estimate. I know it's just a set of silly filters, but I'm excited for them to arrive. 5 more hp is 5 more hp.... I'll take it.

BR-P's M50i dyno. First car is listed on the first page. If you scroll down and switch to my car (the white X5), you can see the difference in hp output:

https://www.br-performance.be/en-be/...1-xdrive-m50i/

I will remove the charcoal filters tomorrow and do a few runs to compare against what I did with the charcoal filters using dragy. Should serve as a good comparison instead of just claimed #s by tuners, which don't do much in the real world.
