2-axle air suspension just disappeared off my build.
Ordered an xDr 4.0 2/19. First my HK disappeared. Now the 2-axle air suspension magically disappeared off the build as well. I wish BMW was a little bit more proactive with informing the buying public about supply chain challenges. This stuff won't fly with me. Canceling tomorrow. Who knows what's next.

45e are designed with and require air suspension, whereas X5 40i and M50i do not. X7s are also designed with and require air suspension system.

I wonder what that means for someone (me) who has an order in with 3rd row seating, which requires the 2 axle air suspension. Order received by factory, but not yet in production...

We put our order on hold hoping the HK or alternate would eventually be available. Definite no go without the air suspension, as we were going to use it to tow heavy (6000lbs) occasionally. |

Dammit - just checked my build, and 3rd row seating is GONE from my option list. Wow.

EDIT: Spoke to genius, scheduled for complete week 12, or by March 22nd. Guy said I should have the air suspension. Last edited by jaynesj13; 03-04-2021 at 09:08 AM.. Reason: Update |

colonel, not related to air suspension per se, but do you have a definitive answer as to why 22" wheels aren't offered for the 45e or other variants when adding 3rd row seating? I postulate the max carrying capacity is too close to the tire load rating/index for 22" (being lower than 20/21" options) especially above the rear axle.

I have HK but my air suspension disappeared. I did notice that under M sport package it says "Adaptive M Suspension." I'm not sure if this has always been there or if this might be a replacement for the air suspension.

That's the suspension that comes with the M Sport Package, so once Air Suspension dropped, that came back.

Got it ... Thanks! I'm assuming its similar in that you can manually adjust the height of the car and now the difference is just a little comfort on the ride??

The battery is right over the rear axle to keep things balanced which necessitated the use of 2-axle air suspension. While everyone thinks of air suspension is designed to provide a comfortable ride, it does that but specifically to maintain a constant ride height (self-leveling) while driving. As far as 3rd row and why no 22", it's because BMW includes spare tire when optioning 22" and 3rd row takes up the all the spare tire space. Though I think it was a possibility for international markets, eg Belgium, but I never followed up on it. There was a mention of max load on the rear wheels with the low height tires being an issue as you mentioned - 3rd row, 22", towing.

I have the "Harmon Kardon surround sound" under the "PREMIUM PACKAGE" section in my build, but the ordered "3rd row seating + air suspension" is not present in the "ADDED OPTIONS" section . I too see "Adaptive M Suspension" under the "M SPORT PACKAGE" section instead of the original "2 axle air suspension". |

In The UK Air Suspension has been removed from all but those vehicles specifying Third Row Seating and the X5 45E variant.
BMW UK has confirmed that the aforementioned changes are a temporary measure from Wk14 to Wk27 production but may be extended. BMW are blaming 'Worldwide Capacity Restrictions' but I would hazard a guess that due to the worldwide and ever growing waiting list for the lucrative 45E variant which is currently 7 months in the UK, BMW are prioritising this model. |

I had cancelled my order as the "3rd row seating + air suspension" option was pulled from my placed (sold) order. It is surprising and frustrating that BMW would choose not to honor a placed order for its customer; even though they apparently do have the capability to include the option since it is still being offered in countries other than the US (even though X5 is manufactured in the US)...
