I am surprised that electing Merino leather ads so much time to build. I selected an option (both in leather type and color) that they list on their own build site. Had I ordered a color that was outside of their standard options, I would understand.

After a long ordeal and 1st car being failed at quality check and 2nd one being had a weather delay for 1 week finally the new X5 45e arrived at my nashville dealer. Due to delays I have already moved to Oregon now car has to do a cross country trip to get to Portland area. Then ceramic coating and PPF. Looks like I won’t be driving it for 2 more weeks. But I m glad at least it hit the dealer.

Google is your friend:

Ceramic Coating
Ceramic coating (such as Opti-Coat Pro, C.Quartz, and Ceramic Pro) is a liquid polymer that is applied by hand to the exterior of a vehicle. The coating chemically bonds with the vehicle's factory paint, creating a layer of protection.

Ceramic coating creates a permanent or semi-permanent bond with a vehicle's paint, meaning that it does not wash away or break down and does not require repeated application every few months.

In short, a Ceramic Coating adds additional protection to your car's exterior and helps keep it looking like-new with comparatively minimal maintenance. The coating achieves this result by making your vehicle more resilient and easier to clean.

Main benefits:

- Protection from UV damage / oxidization
- Protection from chemical stains and etching
- Enhanced gloss or shine
- Ease of cleaning, one of the most significant features of ceramic coating is that it is hydrophobic or repels water. When a vehicle has a hydrophobic ceramic coating, water will bead on the surface and slide off more easily. Meaning dirt and grime will have a more difficult time bonding to your vehicle's paint, and when you wash your car, contaminants can be removed with less effort.

What Ceramic Coating doesn't do:
- Eliminate the danger of scratches, swirl marks, or rock chips, etching from bird poop
- Eliminate the risk of water spotting
- Eliminate the need for washing

PPF = Paint film protection
Paint protection film is a thermoplastic urethane often self healing film applied to painted surfaces of a new or used car in order to protect the paint from stone chips, bug splatters, and minor abrasions.

Some owners have their new BMW ceramic coated., while others have PPF installed or for the ultimate look and protection have both done - paint correction, PPF applied, and followed by ceramic.

Since I lease every 3 years, I have my vehicles ceramic coated.

Thank you so much. This was very informative. Approximately what should we expect to pay to get these treatments on an X5?

You can shop around in your area for various detail shops. Your cost can range anywhere from $850 - $2500 depending on what you're wanting done. Wheels, glass, years of protection, and product will determine your pricing. Coatings can last up to several years.

Poster is in NJ, so it will likely be more than that. I’m in the Bay Area, and I got one quote for $5K for full frontal PPF and ceramic. That was the highest quote, and this place has a lot of marketing hype, but even my chosen one is still $3K. I’m not doing the whole car in PPF or it would be higher.

Yikes! That is crazy! I'm sure it can get that high here in Tx. I happen to catch a deal in a FB BMW group where I live. I got a 7 yr graphene coating for $1200 including glass. Like you said, the marketing hype takes the cost to whole different level.

I placed my order for a 40i with Merino leather on 2/11/21. Production was completed yesterday and it is on a carrier today. The dealer is expecting to receive it on Wednesday. From order to delivery is exactly 7 weeks. In the process, HK stereo was preserved but lost Air suspension.

Where'd you get that deal for ceramic coating in Texas?

My X5 was dispatched from the factory yesterday to a NY dealer. Is there any chance I'll be driving it this weekend?

Hey guys,

Last week(4/17/21) my status was updated to dispatched from the factory and today it is in-transit(after 'at the port' status). Does this mean the car is in California already? I thought it would take weeks coming from SC on rails...

No, In Transit means that it is traveling. That could be by ship, train, truck, etc. In your case it is likely train. You may see change to At Port again if it needs to switch trains at a shipping yard.

My car is scheduled to finish production on 4/19. I called Genius and asked how long from that point it would take to get to my dealership in the DC area and was told it can take up to 4 weeks. That seems crazy to me. Does any know if that timeline adds up?

I would think it really comes down to carrier availability. I'm in VA, and mine took 4 days to arrive once dispatched, but mind you this was 4 months ago, a closer distance, and other unknown factors beyond our control.

they told you "up to" 4 weeks, which means at the latest barring any major delays (and there have been!). maybe it'll arrive in 4 days, but imagine if they told you that and it took longer... the scandal!

so yes, their statement adds up.

My order is currently in from Canada, but we dont have the same ability to check in on status. Dealer cant advise from his end. Is there a known issue with supply at the moment? Mine has Air Suspension and Night Vision.

mine finished production last week, and was "awaiting carrier assignment for like a week. on 4/8, Genius to me that expected delivery was for yesterday 4/14, but it JUST was updated to "dispatched from factor" yesterday. the wait is KILLING me. i'm spending way too much time on the website looking for updates. 4 weeks seems reasonable considering how long its taking for mine. I'm in Texas, so probably about same distance from SC to DC.
