M Brakes really squeak?
I know there are other threads about the M brakes and I've read them all very carefully in trying to decide between standard and M brakes but for me it comes down to just one thing, the squeaks.
Rather than continue an endless thread going in circles about looks, stopping power, cost, etc I'd like to just ask those that have the M sport brakes on their x40i if they really do squeak noticeably more than the standard would. Nothing else. Do they squeak and if so how annoying is it? |

Make sure you're looking at posts about the right M brakes.
The M Sport brakes I had on my G05 40i (4 piston) didn't used to squeak at all. Did 16k miles on it. The M brakes on my F95 MC (6 piston) sound like a banshee most of the time at slow stops. 4k in so far here, but I don't see any signs of it letting up. If the former (guessing based on the sub), you should be fine for the most part. Can depend on your usage patterns and driving habits a bit too - I've found things to be squeakier in dry/hot areas. |

Mine sound horrible, like a cheap car, mostly when coming out of park, sounds like the brakes are wet as opposed to a high pitched "squeak".
I get it, high performance brakes, especially two-piece (rotors) will make more noise - but the sound mine make, it's a little embarrassing for an $80k vehicle (that doesn't have two piece rotors). Last edited by Edubya; 08-04-2021 at 09:43 PM.. |

I have a real M and yes the brakes squeak at low speed braking. Only happens once they cake up the rotor. Doesn't happen when clean.
The M sport and real M F95/F96 brakes are not the same. |

It's funny, some people think that because they have the same color and the caliper looks similar, that it must be the same. They just think the drilled rotors are the only difference.

The M sport brakes have none of these features, not even the M50i Last edited by -Vanguard-; 08-06-2021 at 08:26 PM.. |

No worries. Vanguard recently traded in his 40i and got a "real M" and he's making sure everyone knows it

The X5Ms are known for the squeal, not the X5s. I have an M50i with no squeal, had a F85 that squealed like a banshee until I switched over to ceramic pads.

Well the M Sport brakes on my 40i squeal... The dealer chamfered them when I complained which reduced it somewhat but it's still there.

Keeping my reply contextual to X5/6 vehicles and not ///M. The difference between X5/6 2NH and M Performance brake upgrade kit are discs: 2NH M Sport brakes -[Blue or Red] (Index C) - Fixed 4 piston Brembos front and larger discs, TRW rears and larger discs - Fixed 4 piston, 395x36 + 370x24 discs, lightweight ventilated M Performance Kit (Red): Fixed 4 piston 395x36 + 398x28 discs, ventilated w/punched holes X7 M50i come standard with equivalent M Performance brakes and ventilated discs but not punched holes But yes F95/96 X5/6 ///M come standard with: - Six-piston fixed front calipers and single-piston floating rear calipers at the rear - Drilled and vented 395 mm front brake discs and 380 mm rear brake discs https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...38;postcount=3
