I think Washington state and Oregon have their own "special" kind of rain. LOL To the best of my recollection, it seemed to more often be "all day, everyday" rain that ranged from misting to drizzling, with "proper" raindrops falling here and there over the course of the day, but mostly it was just drizzling non-stop.

In D.C., of course, we have drizzling rain at times, but mostly it rains and soon (less than a day later, but usually within a few hours at the most) afterward stops; or it pours, changes to rain and then stops not long afterward; or it just doesn't rain. That non-stop drizzling rain for weeks on end just isn't the kind of rain we get in D.C.

I moved here because it was supposed to rain, all the time. I love rain, and I love thunderstorms. The only time my car here gets wet is when some fucker can't fix their windshield cleaning thingies and they point to my car!

To think I fell for that stupid tv show marketing this place as one fit for humans! I even have the stupid dog!

I don't actually recall ever being in a thunderstorm while I was out that way. They must have them at some point. I think it was fall, winter and spring when I lived out there. It wasn't a whole year in any case. IIRC, they didn't have what I think of a "proper" snow either; it was always just sleet and freezing rain that turned the roads into "black ice." Maybe the time I was there was an odd period....

I can recall plenty of t-storms in D.C., GA, SC, FL, NOLA, TX, and lots of other places.

Sorry to disappoint Lups but you may have been misinformed. We do not get proper rainstorms here. It is wet a lot but, as the previous posted mentioned, it is more of a drizzle. People around here lose there sh!t if there is real thunder and lightning. One of the funniest things I have ever seen was an office full of people running to the window to see the lightning AFTER they heard the thunder. Yeah, the thunder follows the lightning, not vise versa...

Perhaps Michigan, New England or the Mid-Atlantic states are meteorologically better places for you? Unless you are a tornado chaser, I can fairly well assure you that for as much as you may love thunderstorms, you won't love the ones that are often accompanied by tornadoes. That's the sort of thunderstorm that happens in the Midwest and South. You won't much like the ones that come with hurricanes either. If you've never been in either, take my word for it; you don't want to be!

New England doesn't get much in the way of tornadoes or hurricanes, but they get plenty of rain, and snow for that matter. Like the Northwest, the country is just beautiful up there. Plus, there's not much tectonic activity in New England -- no volcanoes, no earthquakes, and not much risk of tsumanmi, although if there is one that directly strikes the East Coast, it'll be a huge one.

Believe it or not, the earthquake-volcano-tsunami thing is why I don't live on the West Coast. I really love the whole of the West Coast, environmentally and culturally, but I'm just not gong to put down roots in a place where the earth is without question going to move under my fuckin' feet. There are just no two ways about that. Period. I'm also not willing to live in a flood plain, which is why much of the Midwest is "out" for me. And no, I'm not keen on hurricanes either...so the South is also "out."

That basically leaves any of the original 13 colony states from Maryland and points north of it. Seeing as my family have been in "D.C." since the late 1600s, I opted to stay put in D.C. Plus, D.C. doesn't ever get that oppressively cold, even though it gets terribly humid in the Summer. And when that happens, as I said before, we just leave and live somewhere else for a month or two.
